Last night finally returned that last-second-loss pain to South Bend, where it belongs.

That's the whole point - you'd have to stop ohio state with the ten guys you have out there anyway and then stop them again with eleven men. Unless...

Regarding the last two plays - if the ND MLB was as special and intelligent as the announcers made him out to be, maybe he could have shifted the defensive front over a bit.
If he was intelligent he would have stopped the play with an encroachment or unabated to the quarterback penalty. That was their best choice I think.
