Game Thread tOSU at Nebraska, Sat October 8, 2011, 8 pm ET, ABC

All conference games count toward winning your division. It was the same way in the Big 12. Games against teams in your own division tend to be bigger because of head to head tie breakers.

For instance, Nebraska has 1 loss right now. If it comes down to a 6-1 Nebraska team playing a 7-0 Iowa team in the last game of the year. Nebraska could still win the division outright by beating Iowa. Even with identical 7-1 records, Nebraska goes to the Championship game with a head to head victory tie breaker.

AKA, we probably need to win all of the remaining games--ESPECIALLY WISCONSIN--to make it.

I'd also like to say one more thing:

The day after Nebraska was formally accepted into the Big Ten, I decided to sign up at various B1G fan sites such as this one. Fast forward 1 year and this is the only opponent's site I continue to lurk/post. tOSU is a very proud and passionate program that reminds me very much of my own. I have been extremely impressed with the quality of posters on this board and I hope to continue to stick around.

That said, it's been extremely disappointing to see the lack of buildup for this game from both sides as we have each had some punches to the gut. I had been hoping for some serious fireworks this week, but both fan bases have been focusing mostly on the last few weeks of bad news (or longer). I understand why, but it still sucks.

My take on the game is that tOSU is not as bad as they looked last week, and neither is Nebraska. I think most Buckeye fans will be surprised how strong they look when they start playing in Memorial stadium. My Cornhuskers should be fired up as well. I expect it to be a BATTLE on Saturday.

GO BIG RED and O-H-I-O

Yeah, Ohio State's fan base has been punched in the gut a few times in the last week, but the real problem and lack of enthusiasm stems from the multiple swift kicks to the balls that the fan base has been enduring for the last year combined with the realization that Jim "the punt is the most important play in football" Tressel made our offensive coordinator look better than he actually is.

This has to be one of the top 3 most depressing times in the history of Ohio State football behind only Woody's exit from coaching.

It certainly is the perfect storm to ruin the enthusiasm for what should be a historic college football game.

GO BIG RED!

I definitely concur with this. You guys are, so far, the best fans/message board I've run across since we joined the B1G. I joined up at most every message board across the Big Ten landscape last June, but BP is the only place I post at regularly. You guys are aces.

I just spent this morning giving unofficial guided tours of Memorial Stadium to a bunch of Buckeye fans. Really nice people. Took them down on the field, around to the trophy room, past a few statues, stuff like that. Had a great time, and didn't even get a ticket despite parking in the faculty lot.

Hope everyone that comes down to Lincoln enjoys their time. I'm curious to hear how you liked Lincoln and the folks you meet here.

I hear you, man. I must admit, I was far more excited for this game 10-12 months ago. I feel really deflated with all our off the field crap compounded with our poor play on the field. Buckeye Nation has grown accustomed to 10 win seasons and BCS games. Thus far, this is a season of humble pie. :(

I will being flying from Arizona to Ohio on Saturday during the game, but was hoping to catch it on my laptop. Anyone have a good online link that may be televising the game? Don't want to have to resort to the ESPN website for game updates. Appreciate any help with this.

Has anyone ever won a game scoring only a safety?

Ohio State once won a game 2-0. 1920s or 30s or something. But that was because the other team wouldn't play. They disputed how long each half should be or something and they left when Ohio State wouldn't agree to the change of the length of each half.

It's been a week the Michigan State debacle. I've blocked most of it out of my mind. It's a new day. Mark Dantonio isn't the head coach of Nebraska. We have a chance.

Ok good, I got my preface out of the way. I can accept Michigan State as a terrifying defense (despite what Notre Dame did to them). Mark Dantonio was a terrific defensive coordinator, he mentored Luke Fickell, and he knows Ohio State inside and out.

I say run for the hills if we can't move the ball against Nebraska.
Nebraska is 72nd in the nation in points against. 64th in the nation in total defense, 66th in rushing defense, 68th against the pass. Michigan State is 1, 6, and 2 respectively. Sure, OSU's abysmal performance helped their stats, but they are a good team. If OSU has a week to prepare how to attack a middle of the road defense and cannot do it, we are totally screwed.
