Game Thread tOSU at Nebraska, Sat October 8, 2011, 8 pm ET, ABC

the play calling when Bauserman was in the game is what boggled my mind the most

I mean when the game was still tied......there was an ok amount of time left and all 3 timeouts.......3 straight passes?

Guys, honestly, please just step away....we are all thinking the same thing but to actually post it in a frustrated manner only gets you banned.

It is that type of season...deal with it like an adult. The rules around here are not changing regardless of results.

Why you post here then b? :oh: :io:

Worried a little by the post-game quotes from coaches. The defense got out-coached, not outplayed, but the real reason we lost control of the game was because we couldn't keep things down on offense. Instead of trying to burn up the clock by making first downs they wasted opportunities with overly conservative play while were ahead, then overly panicky play as they got closer, tied, and then took the lead. I didn't at all feel it was the defense's fault, not when the offense kept giving the ball back to Nebraska and building their team momentum.

I can only assume Nebraska was crowding the box, and they were hoping to get first downs to stop the clock and not use timeouts until 2 minutes left.

Now granted, I agree they still should have run. Hyde was getting 4-5 yards even with people on him.

So if I take a $100 handshake or turn in more hours than I actually worked, I'll get banned?

Hm - I had this whole angry post thought out. But you're probably right.
You win this one...

Happy thoughts: Braxton Miller is showing great promise and can be a great one if he continues to progress and stays injury-free. Our offense can actually play well when there is some semblance of an offensive plan!

Totally agree. Miller was looking very good a true freshman on the road at Nebraska. I'm guessing there are not alot of true freshman QBs out there that could've done what he did in the first half. If he didn't get injured i think we win the game.

On another note, I've truly never a football game turn on a dime like it did last night. Everything was going so well for us, then at the snap of a finger it went back to what we looked like against MSU. That's what shocks me the most. Even Fickell made a comment about never seeing that before in post-game comments.

I also think we need to give Guiton a bigger look as our #2 QB. Bauserman is unbelievably bad. I'm to the point where i don't think he could hit a barn 10 yards in front of him...he'd probably throw over it.

Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl. Difference is defense made a play when it had to.

I did some check-ins during the first half and watched most of the second half.

And as shocked as I was to see the first half score at 20-6, it was even more shocking to watch the second half collapse.

That sack-and-strip of Miller was just brutal.

But there are some positives. Miller looks like he'll be a good one. Even short-handed without Herron and Posey, the offense showed some fight and did some good things. I think with both of those guys in the lineup, the outcome might have been different.

The defense looked pretty good in the first half. Hard to account for what went south in the second half. Playing on the road certainly had something to do with it, but good defenses are supposed to get better as the game goes on.

I think what we're seeing thus far, is the inexperience of the Head Coach and some of the leaders of the team - growing pains - if you will.

A first year head coach doesn't know how to answer that momentum changing sack-and-strip of Miller - compounded by the fact that Miller went out with the ankle injury.

That's a tough, tough way to lose a game and with two very tough games coming up, Fickell has a pretty monumental job in front of him.

I for one, am rooting for him to keep the team motivated and from letting this defeat damage the team psyche - which has already taken such a brutal beating over the past 10 months.

I don't know if Fickell is the long-term answer as Head Coach, but he has certainly been dealt a bad hand this year and his inexperience certainly showed yesterday.

Still on the road.. From what I could see from section 27:

The Buckeyes looked damn good in the 1st half. It seemed as if every play was good for at least 3.5/4 yards. Mixed in a screen, a Beanie-esque run over the right side of the line, and some good misdirection on the QB draws. Our D was dominate. We could do no wrong, stuffed them on 4th down, dialed up the blitz when needed, the old bend-don't-break defense gave up just 6 points.

And then, the 2nd half. We came out & added 7 more. Braxton fumbles, defense didn't hold. Braxton gets hurt, up 2 scores still. Defense doesn't hold. Bauserman enters, and gets 18 snaps - 10 were pass plays.. Why? We were having success and from what I could see in body language - Hyde was "feeling it." Sure, Bauserman went 1/10 with a pick - but we've got to put these guys in a position to succeed. I felt our offensive staff dropped the ball there.

Our defense fell apart. It's not Bausermans job to make a tackle in the open field, or is it his job to stop the run up the middle (even when we KNOW it's coming). Very disappointed in the silver bullets, all of the defensive gurus on staff, and the lack of adjustments made.

While Bauserman is what he is, I can't believe all the venom being spewed his way when the DEFENSE gave up a 3-score lead. I don't want to see Bauserman behind center anymore than the next fan, but pretending that our defense is good enough to win a title is not even funny, it's sad.

In my IMO, the playcalling in the 4th & the defense (Joes play to a lesser degree) lost this game.*
