Look: Ratings Released For Ohio State’s Game vs. Minnesota

Ohio State and Minnesota treated college football fans to a great game last night as they kicked off their respective seasons on Thursday night. And judging by the ratings, they loved every minute of it.

According to John Ourand of Sports Business Journal, the Ohio State-Minnesota game drew 6.295 million viewers last night. The ratings were nearly eight times better than UCF-Boise State on ESPN, and nearly 10 times stronger than the PGA Tour Championship on the Golf Network.

Better yet, the game had the 10th-biggest audience for a regular season college football game on FOX. That’s pretty incredible for a Thursday night.

Oh8ch, am I correct in surmising that you're pointing out the great coaching that made both of those 3*s play their tails off and record big stats? Guess the aforementioned duo are proof that one cannot measure the heart of a player, the guts, the drive to excel that can and will show out. Great stat. Go Bucks!

In that Fiesta Bowl against ND, the Buckeyes set a record for average gain per offensive snap in a bowl game, for any team. It’s since been broken, but that was a special offensive performance.

And if not for 2 missed FG and 2 turnovers in red zone we would've beaten ND by 34 instead of 14 that day but I digress

Alright, got to watch the highlights from my screen rather than being in the stadium with the adrenaline and alcohol pumping. Had a great time in Minneapolis and overall the fans were pretty nice to me. My points:

1. It was pretty damn loud in there. If it sounded loud on TV, it's because it was. Minnesota brought everything they could. Great atmosphere for a college football game, but the last one you want to break in a freshman QB. CJ's early struggles make a lot of sense in that lens, so if you're panicking then take a deep breath... he's got a long ways to go, but that was a tough gig Week 1.

2. The legend of Olave continues, holy crap did he save us last night. But what stood out to me in person was how FAST he is. We always think of him as a polished route runner and his hands, which I get, but he's seriously got elite speed and the burners he has I didn't realize were there.

3. Speaking of speed, we have it in droves everywhere. That TD from Henderson was unreal to watch live, it was like a glitch in a video game where he accelerated 15 yards in a half second where everyone else was on pause. Then Miyan was burning down the sideline and I had no idea he had wheels like that, kid is a stud and also a clear top performer. Teague also has some nice moments. RB duties may be split for the foreseeable future.

4. I think the defense was getting pressure on the QB consistently, there were just some broken plays and times we didn't quite get there. That Harrison sack and Garrett scope and score was just beautiful to see live, exactly what you expect and love to see happen from our veterans.

5. Being 100% honest, without a program or roster in front of me, I had no idea neither of Banks or Brown didn't play. Then once I saw that after the game, it made more sense. I have no idea how that happened, but I think Watts and Burke weren't terrible all things considered. They've both got some things to work on, but we're usually in the right position overall. Safety I still don't know what we've got, but Ransom stood out to me as the best guy honestly... gotta have him on the field at all times. I'm still wondering if this high safety scheme really can work to be frank, the talent is there and the job isn't getting done.

6. They have a great OL and RB, plus it's week 1, so I want to take the poor defensive performance with a grain of salt. But with the recent struggles, I'll admit it's hard not to be pessimistic. I don't expect shutouts in this era, but there are fundamental errors, missed tackles, and a poor scheme or lack of execution thereof. Things on that side of the ball better improve dramatically throughout the season and from what I can tell, it's the back 7.

Overall, fun game and I can't emphasize enough how important it was to just get the W in that atmosphere. I had real concerns I would be leaving the stadium hearing "overrated" chants and having a very miserable time the rest of the night. Instead, I was high-fiving my Buckeye brethren on the way out and even got some beers with other fans after. The even cooler thing is I finally got to meet up with another BP'er on here for a beer before the game, which I've never got to do yet. All in all, pretty damn happy and looking forward to a good year.

Come to Philly my man. You’ll get to have several drinks with a BPer.

PSA: bring your big boy pants. Some of us don’t just have one.
