Game Thread tOSU at Miami FL, Sept 17, 7:30 pm ET, ESPN

I'm just speechless. Overall, a bad loss.

That was the most fucking ugly performance I've seen turned in by a Buckeye team on offense - like, I don't know, forever? Running game finally kicked into gear, but dear god, passing, where are you?

Besides the 14 early points the D deserves huge props. With a little luck maybe we have an unconventional score (or even two). Without that luck the D stemmed the bleeding and kept it close - at least in theory.

Also props go to Ben with the booming punts - didn't matter though, not in the end. Sadly.

By the way, anyone wanna buy a timeout?

I've got three, spare, unused, totally virgin. (Whispers - They may be beyond their expiration date).

Welcome to the 2004 season fellas.....

I wish I could be that optimistic. Right now I would take 7-4 and a bowl win (of course it would have to be 8-4 and a bowl win).

The 2004 team really turned it around at the end of the year. Hopefully Braxton can turn into Troy Smith.

What a brutal game. Just no experience out there at all. The defense looks like it can play tough, as long as it doesn't have to play all night long because the offense cant move the chains. Herron and Hall in the backfield is gonna be a helluva scary thing for opponents. Brax can't turn the ball over, but he definitely looks like the future...

to be honest, the thing that worries me most is the development of Miller. All of this subbing in and out (especially after one play) has got to get to his head, and I don't know if he's just that quiet of a guy, but he looks really lonely and displaced on the sideline when ol' Baus is in. I say Fickell commits to Miller and tries to circle the wagons around him, re-build some confidence that was most definitely lost.

No way this team is that competitive without the ability to play Tressel ball

Who says they don't have the ability to play Tresselball? Is it a question of ability, or is it a question of agenda from the coach? The one bright part of the offense was the lines ability to create holes for J. Hall and Carlos Hyde. If anything, I don't want the Buckeyes to pass the ball a single down on the first drive of the next game. Even if it is a three and out.

I think that we need to remember that this year probably would have been a bit of a struggle if our off season had not included any suspensions, or coach resignations. Remember we lost a good portion of our defense from last year due to graduation, then add in half the starting offense, and the coach for their "crimes", and that equals a rebuilding year or two. This is a middle of the pack big ten team at best. I don't mean that as dig at all toward them, they are young and inexperienced, and some of them aren't as good as the players they replaced (just a fact of life, if they were better, they would have been starting in the first place). I think they played hard, I like that the O line was moving people, its not going to be big 10 champion type of year, but maybe we can get some experience.

Yes.

Well think about it this way:

Braxton will have a MUCH more experienced O-line than Troy did.

Braxton will have a MUCH better and deeper running back tandem than Troy did.

The Defense appears to be better than in 2004.

The young guys aren't all being thrown to the wolves immediately.

This was, as NFBuck said, predictable. OSU will be ok, Fickell may not be the coach after this year, but the talent IS there, if raw in key spots.

Did you guys really expect this team would not experience some difficult times this year?

Tumultuous off season
Young New HC
No proven QB
Young, Young, did I say young team
Key veteran players suspended for 5 games

You had to believe there would be some tough times to push through. It is one game and one they can certainly learn from. We still have a long season to go and the team really needs the fans to stay behind them.

I am sure Bucknuts is flipping right now...Stay Classy BP...

I think many of us expected to have some struggles. With regard to the Buckeyes passing game, I don't see how anyone would expect what we just watched. That was embarassing. Difficult times.........? To be expected. Struggles....? To be expected. That suckfest that we just watched....I didn't see that coming. Still, the Defense played well and Hall looked good. Hope what we saw on offense tonight was an aberration.

Those holes aren't there without at least the threat of a pass. Honestly, I'm surprised the holes were there at all. They were much slower on the uptake in that respect than Toledo was.

This is almost ALL on the QBs. The defense was shell shocked the first quarter but they made more than enough plays for us to win this. The offensive line was fantastic tonight, opened some big holes for the RBs and gave the QBs plenty of time in the pocket.

I honestly can't recall a worse QB performance. Zwick and Todd Boeckman probably pass for 300 yards behind this offensive line tonight.

This has absolutely what to do with what I said.....did you read NFBuck a little further down...same thoughts....

Luke has to be thinking "what the hell was I thinking accepting this job?" OSU is not the place to get your feet wet as a head coach. I really wish he would have gotten a MAC job a few years ago. Good chance he would have been ready when his number was called at OSU

+1

I understand the offense should have some issues, but there is talent at all positions. I don't think experience ever excuses 20% completions and about 30 yards passing all night (and with a garbage 15 yards on the last play), especially when you are on scholarship at The Ohio State University. It should never get to that level. I could see if we were facing Alabama or LSU's defense, but Miami? I think fans are allowed to expect better.

Losses are expected, sure, but I think the way it happened is incredibly frustrating. We're better man for man than that team.
