Game Thread tOSU at Indiana, Saturday Oct. 17, Noon ET, FOX

Thought the jury-rigged OL did OK. Saw some of the vets let the DL run through them, but some of the cobbled pieces work well. Coaches can/will decide who gets the nod, and hope that the recovering players have their legs under them. Sayin isn't exactly a scrambler, his footspeed isn't heroic. Keep thinking it's taken this OL three years to 'get good', and have an eye on some of the young 'uns as tOSU loses a ton of talent on the OL, and am looking to see who's going to be mainstays next year. Yeah, know in my heart that next year will take care of itself, and that the writers puff up the incoming kids. If had a nickel for the articles that indicate that this guy's the next coming, would be a wealthy person.

I had it my sophomore year of college and it was BRUTAL!

Takes months to get your energy level back to 100%.
Had it freshman year of high school and I had a mild case. A classmate picked it up the next year and was out of school for a couple of months. Let's hope if he has it he acquired the milder version, if there is such a thing.

Presser Bullets: Ryan Day Says Nothing That Happened Against Indiana Last Year Matters This Year, Buckeyes Must “Stay Focused for 60 Minutes”

Ryan Day

  • With pace of play up this year, Day said he spoke with Arthur Smith earlier this year about wanting it to be a part of the offense in a “big way.”
  • Said “nothing that's happened before matters at all going into this game” in reference to bringing up last year’s loss to Indiana.
  • On Jake Cook: “Got a great mindset. He’s a tough guy who takes a lot of pride in how he works every day … He's a guy who grew up in Ohio, wasn't the highly recruited guy, but was gritty. He was tough. Earned everything he got.”
  • Said the offense “has made progress” when it comes to finishing drives in the red zone but is still looking for more.
  • On Indiana: “These guys have played a lot of football. You look at a lot of guys in all three phases that played over 1,000 snaps, and so you know he's done a very good job. Their staff has done a very good job of bringing in guys who are mature and have played a lot of football before.”
  • On the offensive line shuffling with injuries: “We have a plan in place. That's why we recruit depth. That's why we develop depth, and that's why we have to play depth, and so that's what we're going to have to do in this game, and then be prepared for whatever comes with it.”
  • Day said Indiana’s defensive line is “one of the biggest challenges we'll have all season.”
  • Said it “looks like we’ll get” Phillip Daniels back this week, and Daniels will have a full day of practice on Tuesday.
  • Called Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover “really efficient” and “they're doing a good job of putting him in the system that takes care of the ball, and that's one of the reasons why they've been so successful on so many games.”
  • When asked about Indiana’s ability to win in the fourth quarter, Day said “you have to stay focused for 60 minutes,” as the Hoosiers won’t let up ever.
  • Said the defensive backs “have to win” their one-on-ones against Indiana wide receivers Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh.
  • Said it was a “tough ask” for Gabe VanSickle to step in at right tackle after never playing the spot with Austin Siereveld inactive — he did “a lot of good,” but it wasn’t perfect. Day did not address Siereveld’s status for the Indiana game, but said VanSickle would move back to guard with Daniels returning at right tackle.
  • Said it’s all right for players to channel their emotions from last year’s loss into this game, but reiterated how that was then and the focus should be on Saturday.
  • When asked about Indiana bringing in transfer quarterbacks for three years in a row and the future of the sport at that position, Day said most teams would prefer to develop quarterbacks they recruited, but the reality is the older guys often make a difference due to their experience, and teams are looking for that in the portal.
  • On Eddrick Houston: “He's taking the next step and he's playing well, a ton of confidence … We need him to have his best game against Indiana.”
  • On Legend Bey: “He’s taken some steps in the right direction, for sure, and he’s built some momentum. So we’d like to have another good week with him.”

Julian Sayin and Payton Pierce

One of the things we need to improve on is 3rd down conversions. 4th down conversions has been really good, but still struggling a bit on 3rd down. This would go a long way in keeping the Hoosiers on their heels.
They are literally 25th in the nation in 3rd down conversion rate. There’s room to improve but it’s already been a massive improvement from where it was to now.

Edit: That’s what I get for using voice to text on my phone….
