Game Thread tOSU at Indiana, Saturday Oct. 17, Noon ET, FOX

One of the things we need to improve on is 3rd down conversions. 4th down conversions has been really good, but still struggling a bit on 3rd down. This would go a long way in keeping the Hoosiers on their heels.
We’ve actually been pretty good on third down. We are 37th overall. Indiana is very good at 13th.

We’ve just been streaky. We were lights out for 3 quarters vs Texas and then ran cold. We were outstanding vs Iowa and then terrible vs Maryland.

There’s many things that go into games like this. Some are always constant.

1. Don’t turn the ball over.
2. Don’t hurt yourself with penalties
3. Win the LOS

With the pass rush of IU we have got to beat this team physically IMO. Sure take your shots to JJ but we need to 2023 TCUN these guys (minus the cheating). Just physically dominate them. You limit the turnovers categorically, you shorten the game, and you wear the other team out.

To be honest I’m worried about the stupidness we have run into lately with OSU in these games. The penalties, the missed chances to bury a team, the turnovers, and of course the missed field goals. That’s what I’m worried about.

I think we can run on these guys. For once I’d like to see OSU come out and physically dominate a team instead of use the Air Force. There will be moments to take shots but if we can just lean on them it’ll go an enormous way for a victory,

I totally agree with you about turnovers, penalties and winning the LOS. We'll have to agree to disagree about our 3rd down conversion rate.

It’s not that I disagree I don’t disagree really.., we’ve just been hot or cold. We absolutely need to be more consistent.

We really do need to 2023 TCUN these guys on Saturday. Grind them down, keep their defense on the field, lean on their smaller size, and then watch it pay off late in the game or with play action kill shots

From my perspective, only the Illinois game was an acceptable 3rd down conversion rate. About 67% conversation rate in that game. IIRC the next best game was about 53% against Iowa.
And that's not to say we haven't come up with some exceptional 3rd down plays. We have. We just need to get better and more consistent in this area.

College football coaches would fucking KILL for a 67% conversion rate. The best rates top out at 54% in a good year and some years more like 51-52%.

There's acceptable and then there's reality. The best offense in Ohio State history was 2019 and they were at 55.3%. Indiana last year was a smidge over 56%. The best ever I could find was Navy in 2016 at 57.9%...so I think your "acceptable" might be a TAD unrealistic....this isn't a video game.

I trust the coaches, its just even more difficult now, because Ja'kobi is the work horse.

Maybe Bo will arise to the occasion.

They may need to get creative with the WR's with short routes.

It will be interesting for sure.
Not you necessarily, but the pearl-clutching this fanbase does these days is on the amusing side of fucking annoying.

Day has won 87% of his games and a national title. The man knows what he's doing. Let him cook.
