tOSU at Indiana, Sat. 9/2, 3:30pm EST, CBS

I’d be a lot more worried if we didn’t see flashes. But we saw them.

I despise two-QB systems though. They just fuck the entire rhythm up. Not that there was all that much rhythm on offense.

Offensive line must improve.

I liked what I saw from the defense. We saw discipline and didn’t give up home runs, or much of anything. Would have liked to see the pass rush get to the QB more.

It was the first game and a lot of guys are replacing guys who are on NFL rosters. I’m willing to be patient.

They also threw like 8 passes till late in the game. So I think the D-line here is getting a bad wrap

And both QBs were willing runners and there was constant pre-snap motion to keep the D guessing as to where the ball was going which also slows down the pass rush.

If IU was trying to throw downfield at all, I’d be more worried. Once they did, the line got home a couple times.

I'm not sure I'm a fan of rotating QBs. In fact, I know I'm not. I agree with he old saying: "If you have 2 starting QBs, you don't have a starting QB." Pick a guy and go with him. I'm fine with rotating against what should be easy foes the next two weeks and letting Devin play 2nd halves of blowouts, but if we're rotating these guys in week 5 or 7, we have a problem.

I'm not going to get too excited about rag dolling what looks like a bad IU team, but the D can only go up against what's in front of them and they performed how you'd want them to against a team like Indiana. Other than maybe more consistently getting to the QB, I don't really have any complaints.

Play calling was definitely a mixed bag, but I thought it got better in the second half as McCord got more comfortable.

I'm not overly alarmed, particularly not as much as I was at halftime, but I'm certainly not sold either. Would have obviously felt much better if he threw for 350 yards and 4 TDs, but it's his first start, in a road conference game with a rebuilt OL. Work to do, but some good things to build upon in the second half.

This was always going to be a concern with a new QB and rebuilt OL. Just have to get better.

I get not yanking a guy after week one. But Henderson was not good. OL wasn't helping him much, but he's gotta make some guys miss and not go down so easily. If he keeps struggling, Chip and Williams need to pass him in the pecking order. Hayden needs to be in the conversation, too.

Agree with this 100%.

This, too.

Yup. Learn from mistakes and get better.

Again, week one. Watch the film, ID strengths and weaknesses. Get better.
I did some family stuff today and listened to the game on the radio.

I will outsource my thoughts to NF as quoted above.

I only dredged thru maybe the last 5 pages here. I want thank everyone for getting what talking about Ohio State football should be. I don't agree with all the takes here, but that's the point

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that when the season plays out, this IU offense isn’t going to be one of the most dynamic attacks in the country.

Just like last year, we won’t know what this defense is about til the end.
We go gashed by bad teams in recent years, too. So there's that. This Indiana offense would've found at least one 80 yard break away last year.

There is room for improvement, but we all knew there would be growing pains.
Not sure what more can be said other than there's a ridiculously large room for improvement with this team. And the QB play was spotty at best.

However saying that coming off a conference win sure as hell beats the alternative. Defense as a whole really played well start to finish.
Looking at the stats and if we can get second half McCord we’ll be fine. First half you have to chalk up to jitters and also feeling out IU. To IUs credit they adjusted after our first drive and did a solid job from there.

Everyone was upset with the OL but I thought they were fine. I thought when Chip and Miyan ran the ball we found success but when we ran Henderson or the QBs it stalled everything.

Hopefully we see more pass rush on defense and a better plan on offense to keep McCord on track. Not sure who mentioned it but at least the offense started slow and not the defense.

Day will figure it all out. So if the defense plays this well vs the good teams were in business. Still hate that we were sold even snaps at QB and then Devin had 6 snaps the entire game. That had to affect our performance if we split snaps all off season. I really don’t care who starts but splitting reps all off season didn’t help Kyle McCord develop if that’s who we were going to play all game.
