Grumpy Old Buckeye: Ohio State at Indiana

The most annoying things about one of the most annoying OSU season openers in recent years.

Targeting Still One of Life’s Great Mysteries

Short-Yardage Offense Still Out of Order

Not-So-Special Teams

McCord Mistakes

Monday morning look back: 1. It's still a win. 2. Reminded me of Woody v the fans during an opening game; fans, "Open it up, Woody! Throw the ball!" Woody, "Run that damn ball off tackle till we get it right. I'm not showing anything new till we get to the Michigan game." Once at the Michigan game he ran the same offense he opened the season with. It's essentially what Harbaugh has done the last two seasons. 3. I didn't hear Timaloau or Sawyer's names much. Will someone who knows more about the game than I do tell me why that was. 4. Defensive backs looked vastly improved. 5. Offensive line has not yet jelled. 6. General lack of concern or emotion by the Bucks - let's just get out there, do our job, and get back to home and the air-conditioning.
Re: JT and Sawyer:
I would say that we were very vanilla, didnt blitz much at all if any and that left 6 guys to block our 4. Later in the game when the second teams' fresh guys got in we started to get more push and then the sacks and tackles for loss. Also that stupid option they were running took one of them out of the play by direction and then they optioned the other out of the play as well. They didnt give any ground and held the edge the whole game so thats a win in my eyes. They'll be there though I think Sawyers pash rush technique suffered last year so I'm hoping he picks it up more than just his bull rush.

Didn't get to watch game, had to see B10 channel abstract on Sunday, as apparently local cable is squabbling about rate increases. Anyway, believe Indy made it a point to not let tOSU's stars shine. MHJ and EE were doubled, or sandwiched as much as possible. Fleming and Stove (#3 & #4 receivers), got the lion's share of catches/yards - proving that tOSU's receivers are outstanding. And Indy's DL did what they should have with an untested QB - blitz, twist, push and shove the OL, collapsing the pocket. Face it, Treyveon is a 'dancer', making his money on juking DL and using his quick burst. Chip and to a lesser degree Miyan, used quick hitters to gain yardage. As I said above, McCord grew up during the game, and hopefully gained confidence. His throws were not so bad, little long, wrong shoulder, etc. Buckeye Nation supremely spoiled by the last three Heisman finalists, so expectations of a seamless transition to McCord simply won't hold water. Best take-away is that the D stood out. Certainly there were solo tackles, but a vast majority had two or more Silver Bullets converging - which is always a good thing. Cautiously optomistic about DBs, we'll know much more after WKy comes to town, as their QB and WR led the FCS in yardage. Saw two INTs almost made, heard the talking heads saying they'd get 4 or more....Would prefer to see this team grow, get better, and show out against PSU, and of course TSUN. Go Bucks!
