Have you been asleep all season?

Notable wins:

Purdue- Boston College, Davidson
Iowa- Kansas State, Northern Iowa, Oakland(22 win team)
Northwestern- Florida State
scUM- UCLA, Duke, Oakland
Minnesota- Bowling Green(tied for 1st in MAC), North Dakota State(conference champs), Louisville
Wisconsin- VT
tOSU- Cryami, Bowling Green, ND, Butler, Jacksonville(conference champs)
Illinois- Vandy, Mizzou, Tulsa
MSU- Okie State, Oakland(Big-10 loved playing them), Kansas, Texas, Citadel(20 wins)

The Big-10 beat plenty of conference champs and big name teams and it constantly sends teams to the Final 4. Saying this league sucks is bs.
Eh, I wouldn't classify it as "weak" necessarily, certainly no more than the Pac-10, but it is down a bit this season. Usually, there's one or two teams that look like legit threats to make a tourney run, I don't really see a team like that this year. MSU is probably the class of the league, but I found the talk of them as a #1 laughable. They've disappeared in a number of games this year.

Illinois is solid and may pick up a win or two, but they'll need help and a healthy dose of luck to advance past the sweet-16.

Purdue is also solid, but I see them in the same light as Illinois.

tOSU lacks depth IMO to make a deep run.

Wiscy is a very flawed team.

scUM is intriguing if they get hot shooting the ball, but they are vulnerable against a strong front court and if the shots aren't falling, hello blowout.

On the bubble, neither PSU or Minny have what it takes to get past the 2nd round IMO.

I think the conference will pick up a couple wins, I can see MSU and Illinois making it to the sweet-16, MSU maybe the semis. tOSU if they continue to ride the momentum (pending tomorrow) could pick up a couple wins. I think Purdue could possibly get to the sweet 16. scUM, PSU and Minny all reek of one and dones.

So yeah, down, but not "horrible" IMO.

while it may appear like that, it was still the #2 RPI rated league in the country. We also lost the ACC - Big 10 challenge by 1 game. I don't think the league is down, as much as there are a lot of solid teams. We may not have a UNC or UCONN, but we have a lot of Florida State/Syracuse's....

True. I'm just looking at it from a different perspective...having a shot at the Final Four/National Championship. We have a couple of solid/good, but no true "elite" teams like the Big-East or ACC.

One simple point is that you have enough really solid teams like us, Wiscy, etc, and by sheer luck the chances that one of them goes far is pretty high... There is always the chance that a solid 6 or 7 seed makes it to the final four, and if you have 5 of them in the tourney, that's just 5 times the chances. Plus IMO a lot of teams will REALLY struggle playing B10 style ball. Some of these Big East teams imo just will not know how to handle playing against a B10 defense.

I think the Big Ten is the 3rd best conference behind the Big East and ACC. Top to bottom though, I think we have arguably the deepest league. Our wins against quality non-conference teams prove that. We just don't have 2-3 elite teams that hover in the top ten of the rankings every week like the Big East and ACC do.

I hope we get a chance to prove what the Big Ten can do in the Tourny. I think we're gonna turn some heads like we did early in the season.

Who would want to play Michigan, Minny, PSU, or NW in the NCAA tournament or the NIT??? A B10 team will win the NIT. IMO our conference is being discounted because we are not sexy...GMAFB. Wisconsin and Michigan are two teams that can be match-up nightmares for certain teams.

I keep hearing how all we do in the B10 is play defense...what a bunch of losers...defense is very important. I have watched alot of college ball this year because of the B10 network. The conference has alot of three point shooters. This will be another important factor in the B10 match-ups.

The second worse team in the conference was NW...NW is a very good team that beat FSU IIRC...yep the team playing Dook for the ACC title. When your second worse team is as good as NW you have one hell of a conference. The B10 is the deepest conference and that includes the BE...If we had 16 teams we would be amazing.

Sit back relax and watch these jerks eat crow. Seth Davis is already back tracking...douchebag.

I would compare it to the ACC in football last year though a little better(ACC was just plain mediocre. Big-10 has good teams).

I'd rank the Big-10 3rd behind the Big-East and ACC. I can't take anyone who says the Big-10 is bad seriously. It's been a good year for the conference.

Please:frown: I saw that game in person at the Silverdome and old Louis certainly gave Ayers a lesson in basketball coaching.

'99 was Jim O'Brien beating Mike Jarvis in the game that sent Redd, Scoonie, Ken Johnson et al to the Final Four that didn't happen. :wink2:

Louis Carnesecca was in the stands wearing some obnoxious Coogi sweater.

Totally agree with your comment about the 2-3 elite teams in the Big 10. I think that is what holds the conference back from higher recognition by the talking heads.

It would not surprise me at all, depending upon where they get seeded, to see Purdue go deeper than any of the other Big 10 teams. I think right now they are playing better than MSU and truly believe that they deserve a higher seed than the Spartans but I doubt if they will get it. Hopefully, Illinois and one other team from the Big 10 can reach the Sweet 16 with MSU and Purdue reaching the Elite 8. I really don't see any of the other Big 10 teams reaching the Sweet 16 but so much will depend on how they are seeded.
