tOSU 70, at Purdue 66 (Jan 12, 2010, 7 ET, ESPN)

The refs are bad, but the coaching in this game on OSU's side is embarassing. I dont know of many major coaches that would allow a guy to hit 8 3's in a half. The switch to man to man with 1 minute in is so late its not funny. Other than Buford and Turner no one else should have gotten off the bus.

Leaving him wide open in the corner every time down the floor doesn't help. You'd think after he hit about three it might be time for an adjustment. That's the one thing about our zone defense I cannot stand this year and last year, the other team can get a wide open three in the corner whenever it wants with whatever player they want.

OSU has played very little zone this year that I recall.

That being said, man up already.

Diebler on Kramer
Turner/Buford on Moore/Grant
Lighty on Hummel
Lauderdale on Johnson.

If Johnson scores 20 points in the 2nd half, so be it. Shut down the outside.

It's really started up since they've been in Big Ten play. When it works no one can beat it, but it's not working tonight yet....

I'd recommend getting of this thread before the banhammer catches up to you.

Ugh great way to not know what you are doing on the inbounds at the end of the half.

Exasperating. The Purdue player knocking it out of the Buckeye's hands didn't help, but even without that, they had no idea who was supposed to take it out. At least they didn't turn it over for a lay-in like they did against Indiana.

Matta hasn't gotten out of the zone is nearly 3 years now. It's not going to start tonight.

They've played almost entirely man this year, I think.

Okay...come out in man for the 2nd half. Take better care of the ball. Despite that ridiculous shooting display, they are still in this game. Chip away

Its rare that I expect OSU to lose, but it would have taken a heroic effort from OSU to win this game in their current situation. However, its unacceptable when you allow a player to score that many points in the first half. Absolutely no use of subs. The way they were playing zone, was actually more tiresome than just playing straight man to man. Purdue's weakness is depth, but OSU makes them look like UCLA before 13 man schollie rules.

Matta either needs to find a way to use Diebler out there or put in another guard who can handle the ball and is quicker.

Once a guy hits 5 3's on you in one half, AT THE LEAST go to a box-and-1 if you want to stay in a zone, and put the 1 on the hot shooter. Otherwise, go man-to-man and put your best defender on the hot shooter. To stay in the SAME DEFENSE, not change a thing, and pray for the guy to go cold is just stupid. 8-of-10. Rediculous.

Hummel BETTER BE a marked man coming out of the half. It's a shame too, because he's the only player really performing on his team today. Purdue was vulnerable today and still is if we can actualy mark Hummel. I just hope Hummel didn't put this game too far out of reach...

Hrm. Must not have noticed. The only B10 game I've been able to watch in its entirety is the Indiana game. Didn't notice the zone watching the 2nd half of the UM game or listening to the first half of the Minnesota game.
