tOSU 60 Michigan St. 67 (Final)

the way the sequence all went down, I don't think it had to do with any puppeteering. The officials are just incompetent and don't know how to call the game. They anticipated calls that didn't materialize, saw things that didn't happen, and just generally sucked. And they let the game get away from them.

Not trying to speak for rugettinit, but I think he was referring to the fact that Izzo is a master of getting into the referees heads and it started with his whining after Sunday's game. He worked them well in this game and got them to anticipate/make these calls.

Understood. I just think when you look at the offensive foul, and over the back fouls on Kosta, they were just brutal calls due to a lack of competence. I don't think there was any influence from Izzo on either of those. The refs thought they saw something that didn't exist. Kosta's arm extended slightly on the blow by, but there wasn't any contact. The official assumed Kosta shoved him to get by. On the block out, Kosta's hands were at his waist and the players were tangled. Again, the official assumed Kosta must be holding him, even though the contact wasn't Kosta's fault and he wasn't grabbing at all. The MSU player was just being clumsy and it appeared he was being held.

On Kosta's clean block, the referee anticipated a foul because he didn't think Kosta could make the play. Similar to what has happened to Matt Terwilliger time after time. Official doesn't think they have a chance in hell to make a clean play, anticipate the foul coming, and blow the whistle assuming a foul. It's garbage. It's why I don't mind late whistles either. At least on late whistles, you know the ref let the play develop and he saw it through.

If the Big 10 refs were going to show any favoritism today, it would have been for tOSU. Jim Delaney was lobbying for 5 Big 10 teams in the tourney, and a win today would have solidified that. These refs just did an awful job, and the calls happened to go MSU's way. It's a shame the game was influenced in such a profound way.

No other excuse but that we didn't play well enough to win.
GO BUCKS

I agree we didn't play well enough to win, but tell it tot he kids who were playing their heart out.

We went from relying to Kosta on the offensive end, to having to sub him out due to 3 straight BS calls. Add in a bad call on Othello, that then turns into 2 fouls b/c a tech counts as a foul, and all of a sudden the complete complexion of the game has changed.

Nevermind the points MSU put on the board during that 50 second stretch, we lost the aggressiveness of our 2 best players on the court today.

It's a crappy way to lose.

Credit MSU for getting it done though, and especially Neitzel who made several clutch shots.

I hate to break it to you.. We played a pretty decent game.

The technical really, screwed us- but Neitzel won this game. 28? When you're at 50% from 3- with more than 4 attempts, you're shooting god-like.

28 in a college game is rediculous- and even though we played pretty well- it's hard to beat a team twice in a week- let alone a well coached team, like Izzos.

We needed a win, but hopefully the committee looks at SoS and the fact that nobody could beat MSU 2 straight.

We're hot right now, and if they choose to look passed it- we'll just have to win Nobody's Interested Tourney.

You forgot the first one in the second half when Butler pump faked a guy as if he were going to shoot the ball and the guy landed on his back. The ball went out of bounds and it was still Ohio State's but that was one of the few times that I have ever seen Butler look at a referee as to say "what the hell was that".

As you said we lost the game but it was a shitty way to lose it because I do not think that MSU played that much better than us. Hopefully, the committee will look at our close losses which might help us:(

I'd be disappointed in the Committee if they were to select the Buckeyes this season. We do not deserve to be in the Dance.

Looking forward to next year; I hope that team finds better communication and chemistry, and that Thad's mobility and overall health are improved. I really believe his back and foot problems have cost the Bucks some games this year. These things happen, and it's not tragic.

I disagree. I think they are one of the best 65 teams in the Country. I know the selection does not work that way but they have played some very good teams awfully tough this year.

Discussion for next year probably belongs in the recruiting thread or a threat of its own.

Whether you're "one of the best 65 teams" is not meaningful. Bucks are not among the best 34 at-large.

Actually, they are. There are about 5-7 teams bunched up right now and tOSU is right there in that bunch. As long as St. Joes, Kent State, and Mich State/Wisc win their tourneys and UNC beats VT today, I think tOSU will actually get in.

Please read my post "I know the selection does not work that way" so you're reference to the at-large berths was a misinterpretation of my post. In addition, I think they might be one of the at-large selections just due to the fact that they have played very well in the last few weeks and have played tough teams well during the season.
