Tony Parker has taken recruiting trips to Ohio State, UCLA and Memphis and will go to Georgetown this weekend. His highly-anticipated trip to Duke is scheduled for the end of month, and he may sign in November?s early period, rather than wait until April. ?Tony hasn?t officially decided anything, but I think it?s going to be in the early period,? Miller Grove coach Sharman White said. ?I think after he gets back from Duke, he?ll have a good idea about things.?

Parker Skipping Georgetown Visit for IS8

In case there was any doubt that high school players across the nation hold the IS8 league in Queens in high regard, consider this.

Tony Parker is skipping his weekend visit to Georgetown in order to play with Kyle Anderson and the Playaz Basketball club in the IS8 semifinals Saturday.

Our Savior New American will meet the Panthers in one semifinal at 11 a.m., while the Playaz will take on Mount Vernon in the other semifinal at 12:30.

?New York saturday with the bro @KyleAnderson5,? Parker tweeted.

The news of skipping the Georgetown visit was first reported by Jason Jordan of ESPN, and Parker confirmed it via text.

The 6-foot-9 Parker has taken officials to Ohio State, UCLA and Memphis and will trip to Duke Oct. 28. He recently said he is still considering five schools ? Duke, Ohio State, Memphis, Georgetown and UCLA.

Tony Parker did not make an official visit to Georgetown over the weekend, according to his coach. It is not known why Parker did not make it nor if he will reschedule the trip. Parker, who has already traveled to Ohio State, UCLA and Memphis, will make his highly-anticipated trip to Duke this weekend. Parker is reportedly favoring Duke and Ohio State.

He's at least given OSU a visit - that's more than other guys that Matta has recruited that were interested in Duke (Lance Thomas & Josh Hairston) have done. Gotta loathe the Coach K "you only have a Duke offer if you don't visit anywhere else" pressure tactic.

Parker, Poythress Closing in on Decisions

Tony Parker and Alex Poythress, two members of the Georgia Stars AAU program, are closing in on their college decisions, according to Stars coach Norm Parker.

?There?s one school out there for each one of them that is their preference,? Parker told SNY.tv by phone Monday, declining to specify the favored schools. ?I?ve told them they?ve done a good job selecting the four or five schools that they visited.

?I?m as anxious as anyone else to see where they?re going.?

The 6-foot-9, 280-pound Parker tripped to Duke this past weekend where he spent time with former Duke stars Kyrie Irving and Nolan Smith, as well as current players Quinn Cook, Josh Hairston and Tyler Thornton.

Tony Parker is considering Duke, Ohio State, UCLA and Memphis, but Norm Parker said Tony would not make up the trip to Georgetown he missed when he won the IS8 tournament two weeks ago in Queens with the Playaz Basketball Club.

As for when Tony might announce, Norm said, ?He hasn?t decided that yet.?

?I?m looking forward to getting it over with,? Tony told SNY.tv in New York. ?Really focusing in on my season. We got a big year this year.

Could Duke make an all-out effort to recruit a Georgia basketball star and not succeed?

When Duke makes a rare effort to recruit a player from Georgia, is it a foregone conclusion that the Blue Devils will get their man?

That?s the discussion following around Tony Parker, the 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward from Miller Grove High School who made an official visit to Duke this past weekend.

Parker, who is ranked among the nation?s top 25 college basketball prospects, is considering Duke, Ohio State, UCLA and Memphis.

People want to know: Could Coach K really make an all-out effort to recruit a Georgia player and not succeed?

Parker has heard the talk. ?Everybody has their opinions,? Parker said with a laugh. ?It?s makes for some great buzz in the barbershop.?

For the record, Parker said he doesn?t have a leader among his finalists. ?I don?t have a favorite. Hopefully, I will get one soon.?

Parker is also unsure if he will sign in the early period: ?I don?t know; I have to sit down and talk with my parents some more. I hope to figure it out soon.?

What about his visit to Duke? His player host was Duke guard Quinn Cook, who played with Parker on the USA National basketball team. ?We?ve known each other for awhile, and roomed together on Team USA,? Parker said. ?It was good being around each other again and having fun.?

?He told me he hasn?t had a player like me at power forward in a long time,? Parker said. ?They could really use me there.?

Duke recruiting targets in Georgia are far and few in between. Only nine players from Georgia have ever played for the ACC powerhouse. The last big-time recruit of Georgia to sign with Duke was former Westside-Augusta star William Avery in 1998.

Why does Coach K want Parker so badly? Here?s what he told Miller Grove?s coach: ?They think Tony can come to Duke and make something happen right away. They are expecting to lose a couple of their big guys after this upcoming season. And with the guys they will have left, Tony?s game will be a little different, which bodes well for Tony. Duke is looking for Tony to be in the mold of an Elton Brand and Carlos Boozer when they played at Duke. Tony?s fit would be similar to their fit to the Duke teams they were on, and they think Tony may bring a little more to the table.?

Why wait until December to make a decision and be forced to sign late when you can decide a mere 2 weeks earlier and sign then? Is he planning more visits? I don't really care about the details about who he favors or whatnot, I just don't understand the reasoning.

Miller Grove players collect donations for Thanksgiving

Tony Parker can almost taste his mom?s famous Thanksgiving dressing.

To hear him tell it, the way the cornbread blends with the mushrooms and the celery is truly a thing of art.

?It?s so good,? said Parker, a senior forward at Miller Grove (Lithonia, Ga.). ?It?s my favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal. It?d be hard to find something better than that.?

He did manage to come up with one thing.

Parker was even more thrilled last weekend when he and his teammates camped out in front of the local Wal-Mart and a local restaurant to gather food and monetary donations for the Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless Food Drive, which feeds less fortunate families for Thanksgiving and other major holidays.

?It was so much fun and so fulfilling,? said Parker, whose Wolverines check in at No. 2 in the POWERADE Fab 50. ?Just to get a chance to give back and to bond as a team, it was special. I want to do more things like this all year.?

Parker approached his coach Sharman White before the season about the team helping out more in the community, which didn?t surprise White at all.

?He was really adamant about us doing more to help other people out,? White said. ?That?s one of the best parts about this team; they have good foundations at home. I could really tell that collecting those donations made an impact.?

The team collected hundreds of canned goods and "a good bit of money" in the fours they spent helping out. Parker said it was just a matter of evening up the score.

?This community has supported this team so much over the last few years,? said Parker, who has led Miller Grove to three-straight state titles. ?It?s just a way for us to give back to them for all they?ve done for us. We loved every minute of it.?
