Tony Parker (Frayles de Guasave)

I agree with the sentiment that I'd be happy with either, but I said a couple of months ago that I'd take Parker and I haven't changed my mind. Coleman is a straight post player and I don't see anything changing there (nothing wrong with that, just an observation). Parker is already expanding his game to where he can play some on the perimeter and be a PF or C and I like that flexibility. They are about the same height, but Coleman is more athletic. I like Parker's hands, shooting stroke and toughness.

It's a win-win either way. Both Parker and Coleman are outstanding players.

If I had to choose, I think I'd choose Parker. I really like his game and it would translate and fit in really well at Ohio State. Always a little cautious about a player spending all that much time with Calipari (Coleman) as well.

Dead on.......

I think Coleman would have a bigger immediate impact as a freshman but I think that's all he'll do (1&done).

I've liked Parker over Coleman for a while now, even when Coleman was the #2 ranked overall player, because you can tell that Parker is truly a good kid along with being a heckuva b-ball player.

Parker's game also fits Matta's system well too. He could play the "bigger" Matta-4 during certain match-ups and spread the floor with his perimeter game while also being plenty physical enough to play C with 3 wings and a PG.

I also like that Parker played AAU with Shannon Scott. With Matta recruiting a lot of kids from out of state, it's always nice to have a G and F/C with familiarity.

Ohio State appears to be the frontrunner for Parker after last weekend?s visit. ?I?d give that trip a 10,? Parker said. ?I had a great time, and that school is at the top of my list. Well, it?s high on my list.?

?[Matta] is a great guy. I?m really digging the campus. They have a family-like atmosphere with the players and coaches that I love. I?m just all-around loving the school.?

Ohio State has another big factor working in its favor with Parker ? NBA All-Star LeBron James. Parker and James became fast friends at a summer camp, and James has said he would?ve played at Ohio State if had not gone directly to the NBA.

?LeBron will be there [at Ohio State] next week for training,? Parker said. ?I know he?s a big Ohio State fan. He watches their basketball and football games.? What advice has LeBron give Parker about Ohio State, or the recruiting process in general? ?None, really. He doesn?t talk with me about that stuff.?

Scout $ - Parker Comes Away From OSU Visit Impressed

9/13

Hosted by Evan Ravenel...enjoyed his visit from start to finish...both his parents were impressed with the school, the players and the coaches.

This one is definitely trending up...is it first one to pull the trigger between Parker and Coleman?

Pardon my ignorance of the scholarship situation but is there only room for 1? Or is it unlikely they would both come here? It seems we could get them both on the court if the sholarship situation allows it.

Only room for one unless someone leaves - like early for the NBA.

We could actually take both. The B1G allows a 14th "previsionary" scholarship in case someone leaves early or transfers out. When winter qtr rolls around though, you can only have 13 total on schollie so you hardly see teams "oversign" unless they know a player is leaving, like Matta did last year.

When Amir Williams signed, he made 14. But, Matta knew that Kecman wasn't going to stick around for his final year of eligibility (he had a med-RS season remaining had he chose to take it).

AJC College Sports Recruiting
Duke?s Coach K makes personal appearance in Atlanta to scout basketball star
September 20, 2011, by Michael Carvell

Coach K made a personal appearance in the Atlanta area on Monday night to scout Miller Grove High School?s Tony Parker.

The 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward is ranked among the nation?s top 25 college prospects. He made official visit to Ohio State last week, and will take recruiting trips to Duke and UCLA by the end of next month. Georgia Tech and UGA also haven?t given up on recruiting Parker.

Mike Krzyzewski wants Parker so bad that Tuesday?s visit was his second to Miller Grove within the last year. ?Coach K said Tony is a priority with them, and that they would really like to see him commit there,? Miller Grove coach Sharman White told the AJC.

?They think Tony can come to Duke and make something happen right away. They are expecting to lose a couple of their big guys after this upcoming season. And with the guys they will have left, Tony?s game will be a little different, which bodes well for Tony. Duke is looking for Tony to be in the mold of an Elton Brand and Carlos Boozer when they played at Duke. Tony?s fit would be similar to their fit to the Duke teams they were on, and they think Tony may bring a little more to the table.?
What does Duke think Parker can add to the ACC powerhouse? ?They like his rebounding and that he can run the floor very well for his size,? White said. ?And they think he has a really nice shooting touch.?

Coach K?s appearance at the DeKalb County school was just another day at the office in recruiting for Parker. Georgia Tech coach Brian Gregory stopped by on Monday afternoon, while Ohio State?s Thad Matta flew in last week. Parker is considering an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech and UGA.

?Coach Gregory is going to recruit Tony until he signs somewhere,? White said. ?He really thinks he can turn that program around, that he has something special going on with the Georgia kids they are signing this year, and he wants to Tony to be part of it.?

Parker to Visit UCLA

By Adam Zagoria on September 22, 2011

On the heels of Kyle Anderson’s commitment to UCLA Monday night comes still more good new for the Bruins.

Tony Parker, a skilled 6-foot-9, 250-pound forward from Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove, will visit UCLA the weekend of Sept. 29.

“Yes,” he confirmed to SNY.tv by text.

Parker is coming off a recent visit to Ohio State and is also considering Memphis, Duke and Georgetown.

He has taken three unofficials to Memphis and may visit Duke the weekend of Oct. 29.

“He’s got probably five, if not six, schools that he’s stil looking at,” said Norm Parker, Tony’s AAU coach with the Georgia Stars. “He’ll make his five visits without a doubt. He’s going to take his time.”

Surprise! Tony Parker will visit Georgia Tech on Saturday, and UGA may be next
September 22, 2011, by Michael Carvell

Georgia Tech coach Brian Gregory never gave up on recruiting Tony Parker and it has paid off.

Parker, who is ranked among the nation?s top 25 college basketball prospects, will take an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech on Saturday. The 6-foot-9, 270-pound Parker is a senior power forward from Miller Grove High School.

?Tony has never discounted the local schools,? Miller Grove coach Sharman White told the AJC. ?You have to give a lot of credit to Coach Gregory and his staff with sticking with him. Tony will be going over there on Saturday, looking around campus, and listening to what they have to say.?

Parker is also in the process of setting up a visit to UGA. His Miller Grove teammate, small forward Brandon Morris, committed to UGA a couple of weeks ago.

Duke and Ohio State are considered the frontrunners for Parker, who was scouted in person by Duke?s Coach K on Monday. Parker has already made a recruiting trip to Ohio State, and has official visits set up for Duke and UCLA within the next month.

Basketball: Tony Parker talks about his visit to Georgia Tech
September 26, 2011, by Michael Carvell

Tony Parker, one of the nation?s top 25 college basketball prospects, made a surprise unofficial visit to Georgia Tech last weekend.

The 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward from Miller Grove High School was at Georgia Tech on Friday and Saturday. Parker is also considering an unofficial visit to UGA.

He has official visits set up with Duke, Ohio State and UCLA.

?It went well at Georgia Tech; I talked to the coaching staff and talked with the players,? Parker told the AJC on Monday. ?They are great guys. Georgia Tech should do OK in the ACC this year.?

What was Georgia Tech?s recruiting approach? ?That it?s a new generation at Georgia Tech. They are getting a new gym and they are going in a new direction with Coach [Brian Gregory]. That was their pitch.?

And did it work? Did Georgia Tech make Parker?s top five? ?I don?t know,? Parker said.

Did the visit increase Tech?s chances for Parker? ?I don?t know yet,? he said. ?I will have to think about it some more.?

Parker has been tight-lipped about the recruiting process. He visited Ohio State a few weeks ago, and will go to UCLA this weekend. UCLA has some inside position because Parker?s longtime AAU coach, Korey McCray, was recently hired as an assistant for the Bruins.

Parker has eliminated Memphis and Georgetown. His only other official visit is scheduled for Duke on Oct. 29.

Duke?s Coach K shows up in Atlanta to welcome back Tony Parker from UCLA visit
October 3, 2011, by Michael Carvell

Tony Parker had a special visitor waiting for him when he returned from his official visit to UCLA.

It was Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Coach K made a personal appearance at Miller Grove High School on Monday for the second time in two weeks to visit with Parker, the 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward who is ranked among the nation?s top 25 overall college prospects.

?Coach Krzyzewski just reaffirmed that he?d like have Tony in a Duke uniform,? Miller Grove coach Sharman White told the AJC. ?Colleges are allowed to see a player three times in the NCAA contact period. [Krzyzewski] said he rarely uses all three of them but he did with Tony because he?s a top priority.?

It was just another day in recruiting for Parker, who has taken recruiting trips to Ohio State and UCLA within the last month, and will travel to Duke on Oct. 28. Parker has also made an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech.

?It was great to see Coach K; he has been recruiting me since the ninth grade,? Parker said. ?He?s one of the most powerful names in college basketball, and I appreciate him visiting with me and my parents.?

Coach K stayed for nearly three hours. What did they talk about? ?Not much basketball,? Parker said. ?We just talk about life and things like that. We?ve developed a pretty good friendship.?

Parker took an official visit to UCLA over the weekend and paused when asked to rate it on a scale of 1-10. (Note: He gave Ohio State a ?10?).

?It?s really hard to say,? Parker said. ?Whenever you go on a visit, they really roll out the red carpet for you. You can?t help but love it. Every school is a 10 on your visit. UCLA was a lot of fun. It?s in LA, great weather, and a lot of history with that basketball program.?

UCLA also has another big factor in its favor ? the Bruins hired Korey McCray, Parker?s longtime AAU coach with the Atlanta Celtics, as an assistant over the summer. Jordan Adams, who played with Parker on the Celtics, has already committed to UCLA.

?I?ve known Jordan for a long time, and it does affect my feelings about UCLA a little bit. It helps them. But ultimately I?ve got to make the decision that is best for me.?

What about the presence of McCray? ?He?s a great guy. He was my AAU coach and I enjoyed playing under him. I think that was a great hire for UCLA and he will do great things there.?

Will one of those things be landing his commitment for the Bruins? ?It?s great to have a Coach McCray there. He really is a good guy. I know there are rumors that I?m going to sign there only because he?s there but that?s not true. He would be one of the reasons to go there, if I pick UCLA ? but right now, all the schools are even.?

Parker still has Memphis and Georgetown in his top five but has yet to set up an official visit to either school, while Kansas is making a late charge. Kansas coach Bill Self stopped by Miller Grove last week.

Parker said he was unsure if he would make an official visit to Kansas or anywhere else, other than Duke later this month. He is also undecided if he will sign in November?s early period.

CORRECTION: Parker confirmed on Monday night that he is still considering Memphis and Georgetown in his top five. Parker has not scheduled an official visit to either school yet but said they are among his favorites.
