Tom Herman (Former Head Coach FAU Owls)

RIVALS.COM BIG TEN RECRUITER OF THE YEAR
Tom Herman, Ohio State
Buzz: Outside of Ohio State, Michigan and Nebraska, all which finished in the top 20 nationally, the Big Ten had a lackluster recruiting season. There were, however, several impressive individual recruiting performances, making the title of the Big Ten's best recruiter hotly contested. The job that Herman, Ohio State's offensive coordinator, did by going to Texas and grabbing three of the state's top 20-ranked prospects, including five-star linebacker Mike Mitchell -- Texas' No. 1 ranked prospect -- gets the nod as this year's most impressive feat. While Mitchell was a monumental pull, convincing Rivals100 running back Dontre Wilson to leave his Oregon commitment, spurn the in-state Longhorns and come to Columbus to play slot receiver was more impressive. Add four-star quarterback J.T. Barrett to his total, and even though Herman did not get to pad his stats with in-state pickups, his was the Big Ten's best in 2013.

What about if a mod put out a message like "Herman talk about leaving moved here:" and one of you tech geniuses can link that to internet purgatory. I don't want to see this guy leave anytime soon. So funny to me how the fans at ISU were saying they didn't see a big deal that he left. I thought about that when looking at our 3 players from TX this year and the way he handles himself in interviews. It's obvious he is a big time talent.

Why do you think that someone who isn't from Texas, didn't play at Texas, and has no connection to UT other than being a GA there is going to be their HC?

This. And although we as Buckeye fans have a very high opinion of our assistant coaches, Herman simply hasn't been here long enough to garner the type of hype that translates into becoming the head coach of a power program like Tejas. Compounding this is our bowl ban last year - out of sight, out of mind.

This conversation will make a lot more sense in a year or a few. I also highly doubt Tejas hires an OC without at least some head coaching experience. So for the moment, I see Herman staying put.

He likely wouldn't. Anyone that thinks UT isn't hiring a top of the line, experienced HC is kidding themselves. They will have more money than they know what to do with when that time comes.

I still think Muschamp is a likely leader, as will be Peterson, Patterson, and a few other guys whose names will pop up (Saban, Miles, Briles, etc.)

Because it's one of the few top-tier programs and he has connections to/in the state (witness the recruiting job he just did for us) and after he wins at least one NC here and they've watched Mack continue to run their program into the ground, they and he will be ready for that move.

Move it, delete it, whatever but it's a legit topic and Urban has never had a problem with assistants going elsewhere when the time is right for them.

I don't think anyone here would deny that Herman will get offers eventually. The question is will he be a high profile candidate when the Tejas position opens up? I'd imagine the Buckeyes would need to be ranked high(Top 5) in every offensive category for him to be considered if Mack were to get fired at the end of the 2013 season.

I thought Major Applewhite was going to be their OC, or co-OC, or something, and call plays from up in the booth?

For the same reasons that Urban Meyer has no connection to tOSU other than being a GA here.

With the number of players coming back on offense, Tom Herman will be his most marketable at the end of 2013.
