Tom Herman (Former Head Coach FAU Owls)

:topic:

1) Mack aint getting fired... not after the athletic raked in $160+ million....
2) Its probably not gonna be Applewhite not after the backlash of pokin a trainer on their fiesta bowl trip in 09, while his wife was pregnant
3) They aint hiring someone without HC experience
/rant over

Back To Tom

I hope he stays for a while but know its unlikely he's turned out to be a good hire, I watched the Iowa State Pin Stripe bowl in 12 after Herman got announced with my FiL, he was going nuts with the play calling .. I said.. give the guy time with our players lets see what he can do

He likely wouldn't. Anyone that thinks UT isn't hiring a top of the line, experienced HC is kidding themselves. They will have more money than they know what to do with when that time comes.

I still think Muschamp is a likely leader, as will be Peterson, Patterson, and a few other guys whose names will pop up (Saban, Miles, Briles, etc.)

Is this really accurate? Urban has a little more connection to tOSU than just being a GA here once.

He also has a bit more on his resume than being a GA or OC.

The last time OSU hired a HC who did not have HC experience (other than Fickell as an interim) was before I was born. And I am an old man.

Tejas works pretty much the same way.

Let me preface this by saying our offense was leaps and bounds better this year, and that Herman is an OUTSTANDING recruiter. He seriously did work this year and also got his man in Barrett. Now that being said, let's cool the jets a bit and make a few things clear:

1. Assistant coaches at OSU do NOT voluntarily make lateral moves to other programs (I can't think of one).
2. Texas or any program of that caliber is not going to hire anyone but a big name and/or deep ties with their program.
3. We are ladling on the praise and forgetting how far Braxton has to go in his development. This is Urban Meyer's offense with some input from other assistants, so it's tough to say how much credit he deserves for turning the offense around yet. He is an outstanding recruiter, we know that. However, we don't know what type of QB coach he is yet...Braxton being a crazy athlete wasn't taught to him by Herman or anybody for that matter, and his throwin has a LONG ways to go. Not saying it won't happen or that a failure to develop Braxton into an NFL QB is a fair indictment on Herman, just saying we are drinking this kool-aid pretty fast when we are already writing him off as a HC to some huge program. Now I do think that Herman is a great coach and will end up being special, I am just saying we need to slow it down for now.

Coordinator Herman has taken 'Jet' path from D-III to Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There aren't many coordinators -- those six-figure lieutenants sitting at the right hand of head coaches everywhere -- still paying off student loans. But there aren't many offensive coordinators like Tom Herman.

The Ohio State play caller, who turned 38 earlier this month, clearly remembers living off Ramen noodles at age 30. That would have been about the time he was Texas State's offensive coordinator under David Bailiff making a heady $40,000 per year.

"My wife [Michelle] worked her ass off," Herman said. "She was kind of a sugar mama. She was the bread winner for a long time. I can certainly relate to the normal student."

Let's just call Tom Herman the accidental coordinator. He has paid for more than his education. The reminders of his days as a Division III receiver at Cal Lutheran are numerous -- 13 knee surgeries and four shoulder surgeries. Considering the toll on his body and his budget, "I tell people I basically paid to play college football."

Think about that the next time a player stipend comes up. Hired basically on word of mouth by Urban Meyer, Herman is in charge of what he and his boss freely says should be the best offense in the Big Ten in 2013.

"Yes, absolutely I do [think that]," Herman said. "I think anything less than that would be selling our program short."

Contd.....
