Won't be coaching at Houston next year, USC and USCeast jobs just opened up. I bet one goes for him.

It will be interesting to see what Houston will do to keep Tom Herman if they feel he's the one that can build the program towards P5 competitiveness. The current administration there, from University Chancellor Renu Khator on down, are committed to changing the culture and expect they will secure a Big XII invite in two years. A lot of people are very unhappy Briles and Sumlin were both allowed to walk in the past decade, and they're done with the attitude that Houston allows itself to be a stepping stone to better jobs.

Thanks for the perspective Dryden. Will be interesting indeed to see his path and theirs.

That will definitely be interesting to see how much of a raise they can give him after this year--he's already one of the best-paid mid-major coaches ($1.45M+bonus) and even doubling that still leaves him outside the national top-30. FWIW, Sumlin left for a $2M/year deal at the end of 2011, and Briles left for $1.8M/year in 2007, both of which were about double what they were making at Houston.
