Tom Herman (Former Head Coach FAU Owls)

The only thing in the post I don't agree with. It's just going to be incredibly difficult for a Group of Five team to make the playoffs vs a Power 5 team getting in.
This. If Houston gets lucky enough to get into the B12, it actually becomes a job I could see Herman staying at more than the 2 years I'm expecting. I'm going out on a limb though that it doesn't happen in the next year, if ever.

Disagree. As recently as 2009 & 2010 one or both of Boise St (WAC) and TCU (MWC) would have likely made a four team playoff. I don't expect a G5 team gets in this season, but if one of them puts together a multi-season run like Boise had under Zabransky and Moore or what Houston had under Case Keenum pre-injury, they'll earn the benefit of the doubt.

Tom Herman's hell-bent on making Houston a team you don't mess with

Houston is 7-0 and rolling. Rookie head coach Tom Herman has learned well from his time under Urban Meyer and isn’t about to lose sight of the little details that might lead to a stumble.

In junior Greg Ward Jr., Herman has his latest playmaking QB protégé. After developing Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones at Ohio State as he helped the Buckeyes to the national title, Herman’s new dynamic triggerman has thrown 10 TDs and just two INTs and is completing 72 percent of his passes. Ward, who has 15 rushing touchdowns, is also No. 9 in the nation in total offense, accounting for 344 yards per game.

Herman says Ward has really improved his grasp of the offense since the start of the season because he’s making faster decisions. UH doesn’t do much of the QB zone or QB power game that Herman used at OSU. Ward thrives on perimeter runs, making the Cougars' attack especially dangerous.

“He’s like a poor man’s Braxton,” Herman said. “He’s so explosive with a lot of wiggle and great change of direction. He also throws it much better than people think."

Cont'd ...

CTH can wait as long as he wants for the next perfect job to come along....he has Ward Jr. for another year, has great connections in Texas where he doesn't have to leave the state to recruit and is cleaning up already recruiting wise. To top that off he has a program that supports him and is in a conference that is well respected....3 top 25 teams is quite impressive and gives him plenty of chances to pad his teams resume each year.

Oklahoma better watch out next year - the Cougs start the season off with them before we hopefully add a 2nd early season loss for them!

Not that I disagree with most of your post but...the AAC is well respected?

By whom?

Herman had a great interview with Gio and Jones on CBS Sports Radio (95.5 FM here in Central Ohio) yesterday. Very engaging and of course gave love to Urban, JT and Cardale

This year; by all.

Really? All?

Leaving aside the very unlikely possibility that everyone respects the AAC, let's look at the murderer's row your powerhouses have defeated:

17 Mississippi
38 PSU
40 Bowling Green
52 Louisville
54 Cincinnati
62 East Carolina
71 USF
77 Air Force
86 Tulsa
96 UConn
100 Tulane
105 Texas St
107 UMass
110 SMU
117 Kansas
123 UCF
125 Charlotte

Colgate
Missouri St
Tennessee Tech

Yes, even as ridiculously overrated as it is, Ole Miss is still a good win. Everything on that schedule is dog shit.

Let's not kid ourselves, the AAC is still CUSA with a new name.

(Rankings are from the Massey Composite)
