Tom Herman (Former Head Coach FAU Owls)

Let's be honest there's only one man who can save the horns and bring them the mnc glory they seek

(Its Vince young if you're wondering)

Same. He had an incredible first year in Houston. He apprenticed under Meyer for 3 years. He ran outstanding offenses and recruited very well in Columbus. I thought he had all the makings of another Urban. I truly thought he'd make Texas relevant again.

Then he hired Tim Beck.
I was pondering this today too and was wondering how much Ryan Day has benefitted from the staff infrastructure (largely Mick and Pantoni). Not saying Day would have experienced the same fate as Herman; just extremely fortunate. Honestly my biggest fear of Urban resurfacing in Austin is more losing those two than it is UM rebuilding (building?) the UT brand.

Oh, no doubt he’s benefitted from the infrastructure that Urban built.

i don’t worry too much about losing Mick/Pantoni because I think Urban is done coaching. I think he follows the Parseghian model where he retired early (Ara was 51) at the top of his game and enjoys a nice broadcasting career while getting plenty of time with the family/grand babies. I think Urban knows he burns too hot to go back in full throttle with the underlying health issues...and taking that Texas job would be a HUGE undertaking.

I think the biggest thing would be his ability to cut off our cherry-picking of the cream of the crop recruits in Texas. If you go back ten years, that's a huge, gaping hole of talent that we would have missed had most of it stayed in Texas.

On a related note, Surly is apparently in full flight-tracking mode now.

Dobbins and JT alone would have madeone hell of a difference down there.
