I was amazed by his comment about having to stop at an auto accident because only a Scientologist could help. I found myself laughing at the look in his eyes, the silly beliefs about only Scientologists having the answers for every world problem, the tough guy act asserting that he won't let others talk Scientology down (yeah, they're shaking in their boots that you might jump on their couch, Tom).

Then, I just felt sad that a person with so much potential to help others, and a clear desire to do so, allowed himself to become so deluded. Must have felt nice to have all those people tell you that you were single-handedly saving the world, while their cash registers rang up the profits.

On a personal level, I believe that religious teachings can have incredible value in people's lives. But L Ron Hubbard was a convicted fraudster and conman and Scientology is no major religion. I feel so incredibly sorry for anyone who is under the spell of a cult leader. What an incredible waste!
