I think Tim's a great college player, a hard worker, a bruising athlete & a charismatic leader. The problem is many of those attributes lose their advantage (or most of it) when you reach the next level.
Most players work incredibly hard and are more mature and dedicated about their preparation. They also have better trainers & "doctors" to help sculpt their physiques. They don't have to pretend to be students any longer, they can dedicate their lives to their sport.
Tebow's athleticism was never about speed (which was fairly average in college and moreso in the pros), it was about remarkable strength & toughness. He'll lose a lot of that advantage at the next level, where many LBs will possess the same freakish size & strength as Tim.
His leadership & intangibles will certainly be an asset in his NFL career.
Tebow struggles with his accuracy, velocity, footwork, throwing motion, windup & progressing through his reads. The passing lanes and windows are a lot smaller at the next level and he played 4 years in a system that put tremendous strain on a defense and made his job as a passer much simpler.
Can he improve? Sure, but how much? The improvement yesterday was not substantial, and before he tried to overhaul his fundamentals he still struggled with a lot of these things.
In the NFL, he cannot get away with throwing off of his back foot, tipping off the DB or LB with a long windup and average velocity or putting the ball to high or low.
For a team with no quarterback, I can see the gamble in the 2nd round, especially if it sells some tickets in the meantime even if he doesn't pan out. I question the logic in drafting him as a patriot (before the 3rd-4th round) and removing an NFL legend from the field to play a raw rookie (unless Tom is nearing retirement).
Pat White was a much more dynamic runner with comparable passing ability (and more upside as an NFL passer, albeit a project). He has looked like just another backup QB and his explosive speed displayed in college is almost non-existent. Tebow will bring a more physical attack to a wildcat formation, but White's mediocre impact certainly adds skepticism to Tim's chances in that formation.
