Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

It was very familiar. The sooner Mensa realizes his mistake and cuts bait, the better chance he has there. If today doesn't solidify the fact that Tim Beck is offensive kryptonite, I don't know what will.
Anyone who made snide comments on Thursday night care to come forward?

This guy was, at a minimum, 50% responsible for the [Mark May]show offense we had for two years. And for that, I ultimately hold the highest respect for Urban in that, if he expects a two year commitment, he honors a two year commitment.

Mensa better get wise real quick. He's got a good name but a short history... he can't point to a long history of success and with the UT alum, he'd do well to be taking a good hard look at his succession plans now.

That said, glad he's Tom's problem now.
But would Mensa admit defeat and cut bait after year 1? My guess is no, and he too gives Beck 2 years. Especially since Beck's recruiting prowess will help in the dog eat dog state of TX where there are so many in state schools vying for recruits as well as schools bordering the state, and not to mention elite national entities(OSU, ND, USC, etc) who poach kids. Beck has helped in getting a number of those stay home(so far), will his coaching ineptitude wear thin though?

You'd think, since it's Texas, that they'd figure out who the cows are and where the ride the nice rancher is inviting them on is going to end up.

Wanted to find video of a post-game Q&A, but discovered that TX won't be allowing interviews with Timmah after games this season.

Did, however, run across an amusing contrast between two articles mentioning Beck, one early this year, one post-game.

Why new OC Tim Beck is good for the Texas Longhorns

Certainly, there are questions about bringing Beck to Austin. Those questions are reasonable, especially considering that a search of Ohio State media content will reveal a consistent bashing of Beck as the scapegoat for the football program’s recent shutout loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoffs and his contributions to the decreasing offensive production for the Buckeyes in 2015 and 2016...Not so fast, my friend. Sure, it seems logical that when a new co-coordinator is brought in and production drops, he is responsible. That is not what happened here...
This is the exact formula that led the Buckeyes to the 2014 National Championship and the No. 1 offense according to the S&P+ under Herman. Based on projected roster for the Longhorns in 2017 and beyond in addition to this commitment to the same formula that led to Herman’s at Ohio State, I personally would not be surprised to see similar success at Texas in the near term.

Tim Beck understands this. He and Herman already know exactly how this looks and have a plan for success. That plan looks a lot like “run the stinkin’ football.”

And that, Burnt Orange Nation, is exactly why Beck is the perfect hire for being the next offensive coordinator at the University of Texas.

Vs.

Fixing Texas will take more than time for Tom Herman

Nebraska fans will nod knowingly at UT fans questioning the play calls against Maryland. Beck’s time as the Huskers’ offensive coordinator was chock full of second-guessing. He followed Herman as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator and Buckeyes’ fans are still asking why Zeke Elliott had just 12 carries in that 2015 loss to Michigan State...Junior Garrett Gray was twice targeted on failed fourth-down plays at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half. It’s as if Beck thought he had Rob Gronkowski at his disposal.

The fact that the offensive staff is wedded to “11 personnel” packages (one running back, one tight end), even if the tight end spot is sorely lacking, is concerning. Good coaches adapt to their personnel instead of forcing personnel to carry out schemes for which they’re not suited.

if before the 2015 osu/msu game you were told that osu would score a touchdown on each possession where elliott carried the ball more than once, how much of your mortgage, your children's inheritances, and your retirement would you have wagered on a buckeye win?

You must be loads of fun at parties.
