Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

With all due respect, do you really think that you know more than the winningest coach in college football? Do you really think that you understand the complexity of weighing up which recruits might be vulnerable, which other coaches might be going (e.g., Joker), who is available?

This is not an exercise in punishment. You fire when the timing is right and you know where you're going. It is hard to believe that Urban Meyer would feel that he understands the entire chessboard in two days.

Saban has had Sarkisian hired and getting ready. The handover was already underway. The situations are not even comparable.
As a whole? Of course not. In regards to Beck? Yeah....average schmoehawks from BP and NebraskaPlanet had that pegged a long time ago. Not everybody knew at the time of the hiring (some did). But about halfway through last year? Yeah.....we apparently knew more than coach about this one tiny aspect.

Don't flatter yourself. Recognizing a problem and fixing the problem are different challenges. We don't know what agreement Meyer may have made when hiring Beck. Perhaps he requested a two-year commitment and offered the same... Obviously Meyer's mitigation effort, namely taking away his play calling duties was insufficient.

Flattery would mean it was impressive to notice this years NFL all rookie team was playing like shit last year.

This is big boy football. I don't give a shit if Urban promised him 10 years. That's 12 too many in the first place. It's not like he was going anywhere else.

Saban just kicked his OC to the curb BETWEEN PLAYOFF GAMES. Urban wants us to be Bama 2.0. You think Saban hems and haws over hurt feelings?

So you're sticking with your notion that Meyer didn't recognize the Beck problem when you and a host of others did last year?

If he recognized it, he didn't do enough about it. You know how I know? He's still on the god damn team.

Again, that doesn't mean I think I know 1/100000000000th of what Urban Meyer does when it comes to football. But I (and a majority of others) saw a shitty hire based on a shitty past at Nebraska, gave Urban the benefit of the doubt, watched a season with more talent than any of us have ever seen go to shit in a hurry, then watched him come back this year and pull the same shit.

I'm not patting myself on the back here. This isn't something that is noteworthy. But Urban Meyer isn't infallible. He gave the ball to Braxton instead of Hyde against MSU, he gave the ball to JT instead of Zeke. He kept Tim Beck for 2 years. These are mistakes. They don't come close to outweighing all of the good decisions he makes. But just saying "He's Urban Meyer so he must be right" is foolish.

Okay, I wholeheartedly agree that Meyer is not infallible. I don't know what Meyer's thinking was in terms of fixing the Beck problem but I agree that he didn't fix the problem that he surely recognized last year too.

This has nothing to do with football knowledge I've come to understand it has to do with organizational management, reading people, and being gifted by the good lord with two working set of eye balls.

Like you said 27 I fault UFM for not moving fast enough on two occasions. It has resulted in costing us the big ten championship 3 of the last 4 years. One because of withers and two because if Beck/Warriner and those are facts.

We don't lose to MSU with a good secondary and we don't lose to MSU/PSU with Herman at the helm.

I realize I know a fraction of what UFM had forgotten about football but I know awkwardness when I see it. What I would recommend UFM doing is sitting down on every Saturday for the next 12 weeks and watching our games in succession just as we have. If you feel anything but "well this will be fun" when we play a good defense then simply you're blind or incompetent.

When Urban Meyer said Ohio State will be a good passing team next year, it was obvious that he felt he had solved the problem. How that manifests is something that I am confident will be revealed shortly.
