Tiger Woods (Offical Thread)

Then why does anyone use them? Even if it's a mental edge, confidence and such or whatnot, so forth and so on. Feel me knockin'? Let me in. Are you picking up what I'm putting down, so to speak.

They use them because they accelerate recovery time in your muscles. Over the course of a long season, your body wears down and performance suffers. Certain PEDs can minimize those effects.

But if they have a pill that'll make me hit like Manny or golf like Tiger let me at it. :wink2:

I'm sure most of us agree that cheating in any regard, be it in marriage or in sports, is disgraceful. But it's pretty easy for me to understand why people would be much more outraged at someone cheating in sports compared to cheating in marriage.

I guess I'm the opposite, especially when there are children in the marriage. Those kids are more impacted than any sports fan, when it comes to cheating.

We aren't emotionally invested in athletes' marriages. I couldn't give a [censored] less what Tiger Woods or Barry Bonds do in their own homes. But I do care about the sports they play, the records they break, etc. Not because I root for them personally, but because I respect the history of the sports they play. I don't want Jack's record of major victories broken by a cheater, just like I didn't want to see Hank Aaron's record broken.

I don't get emotionally invested in individual sports records. My involvement ends when the game ends.

The most laughable thing to me is the notion that MLB's record book was pristine until Barry Bonds came along. No sport has done more to taint its record book than MLB. They don't even have a uniform playing surface - it would be like the NFL having a 90 yard field in Cleveland and a 115 yard field in Chicago. Gaylord Perry wrote a book about how he doctored the baseball during his career; he's in the HOF. Hank Aaron played several years in a launching pad, with short interior fences to facilitate home runs.
Bonds used steroids? Who cares?

It won't help you hit a curveball in what way? Sure, it won't help your eyes see it, but it will turn what should be a pop fly into an opposite field bomb 40 feet over the wall. In golf, if PED's translate into greater strength, which results in further distances off the tee, wouldn't you say hitting your approach from 150 out with a 9 iron is a hell of a lot easier than from 200+ with a 4 iron?

Nah, I can't hit my short irons worth a damn.

I was about to make a post about how some people who don't care at all about the infidelity scandal will be up in arms over the notion of him using PEDs. Looks like you made it for me.

I don't care about someone else's personal life. I just don't. As long as what they do in the bedroom is legal, then its not my place to get up in arms about it. I believe infidelity is wrong and I understand the public's intrigue because of his fame and place in the sport of golf, but I don't personally care.

I'll say the same thing I've said about baseball. No PED in the world is going to help you hit a major league curveball, and no PED in the world is going to help you control the ball in the way it is necessary to shoot 67 at Bethpage.

And I'll say the same thing I've said about baseball players that used illegal PEDs. If it doesn't give you competitive advantage, why take the risk? Why are you willing to break the law if it doesn't help you out in your sport?

To me, it's all cut from the same cloth: integrity. One either has it, or not. By that definition, marital infidelity and looking for a short cut to athletic excellence are the same. Cheating.

Integrity has levels. Some are worse than others. But you find me a person that follows all of the rules of law and life all of the time, and I'll say you found a needle in a haystack.

I drive 9 miles over the speed limit wherever I go because I know police officers won't bother with me. By your definition, I probably do not have any integrity.

But then again it was in tabloids - a week before it became true - that Tiger was cheating on his wife. Everyone thought "Psshh, its the National Enquirer, its gotta be fake.

If it's good enough for Al Gore's college roommate, it's good enough for me...

There are some who are usually intrigued when a famous person has a fall, simply because it is a famous person.

In this situation, there is another dynamic at work. Cheetah's image has been carefully created over the past decade to where the image of a squeaky clean, wholesome, family man was his persona. When stories like this hit, the hypocrisy then helps to really fuel the typical "famous person's fall from grace" intrigue.

This has been one of the biggest, if not the biggest, falls I have witnessed. Cheetah had it all and sadly he never understood that having it all includes a family. Assuming that Elin divorces his ass, he will then lose something that is worth so much more than all of his endorsements and tournament winnings combined....his family.

Bill Clinton Vs Tiger Woods How come Bill got a pass and Tiger has to Quit golf ..My plumber cheated on his wife multiple times and he never took time off..Racisim? If Tiger was married to a Black woman and cheated with black women it would only be a couple lines in a gossip column.

Not the smartest post on bp, but not the dumbest either.

Tiger has had this pristine clean reputation, and we have seen it in the past, when you present yourself as clean as a whistle, and the smallest thing comes up, it's on for the media. Arod, Jordon, Kobe, Magic, this has happened in the past, once the media got a chance, it was all about damage control, with Tiger, the flood gates are opened and now people are just piling on.

Nothing to do with color, nothing to do with race, this has to do with business, and right now, the business is destroying the image that Tiger and his people built, and as you can see by this thread, business is good.

OJ killed his ex-wife and her lover. Kobe allegedly raped a woman. Bill Clinton took advantage of a subordinate in the Oval Office. Michael Jordan did the exact same thing as Tiger.

And yet, sadly, I agree that this has been a bigger fall from grace than all of the above, with the exception of OJ. I attribute it, of course, to his carefully crafted image; but also an abnormally slow news period and the bizzarre traffic accident that started it all.

But I still don't care. If there are people in this country that bought into the image and actually purchased items/services based on that image, they're idiots and should have known better. He's a star athlete/celebrity. If you thought he was squeaky clean, then look in the mirror and you'll see a sucker.

I see this a lot and I believe it is a bit of a misinterpretation. As I understand it, it was the impending article on Tiger's infidelity that triggered the argument that triggered the accident.

The scandal was coming regardless.

When the Enquirer article came out, no one cared - partially because it was the Enquirer, but partially because it was still behind closed doors. When the traffic accident happened, it was headline news, "Golfer Tiger Woods seriously injured in a traffic accident." All of a sudden, the first thing my grandfather said to me when we met for dinner that evening was, "did you hear Tiger was seriously hurt in a car crash?" After that, everyone was watching and it became a media firestorm.

If the accident doesn't happen, it's still a story, sure. But not much, if any, moreso than any other athlete/celebrity breakup and infidelity.

How does the fact that Tiger is whiter than Bill figure into all that?
