The course where the British Open is at has some crazy greens. Fairways are easy to hit, but the greens have so much slope/hills to them. I finally started liking the game when I started figuring out putting. I hit a hole in one of the Masters Challenges for Jack Nicklaus. Put the ball on the green about 30 feet from the cup and with some spin it rolled right into the cup. Also had a put on the British Open course where I had to put up a slope (about vertical it seemed) if you missed the hole it rolled right back down to you. I ended up putting just to the left and past the hole, but the ball managed to roll right in. I might end up getting this game after all. We were playing on a easy difficulty, but it was still tons of fun.

Okay, so apparently by skipping tournaments you can eventually get to something that you can play. When you initially start, however, everything is locked except for the first tournament, which you aren't qualified for.

It sure as hell seems like your only option is to purchase something, which is probably the intent. While not as lame, still pretty lame.

Well, the first tournament is the Champions (at least on XBox) which requires that you won a PGA tour event in the previous year. In real life that is the first tournament on the PGA schedule (it's now named Hyundai Tournament of Champions). So I don't have an issue with that since it's what would happen if someone started out on the PGA Tour in real life. I believe the next tournament is not locked. Of course the sheer amount of locked courses is a joke.

What's your favorite courses so far?

Probably Augusta, but I only play courses in order. For example, didn't touch Augusta until it was the next tournament up. So I did a couple practice rounds on it, then played it. I do that with all the courses, so there are a ton I haven't played yet.

Really like that course. Seems to be easily the most challenging (aka fun) of the courses I've played so far.

Anybody want to gameshare courses? I did it a couple years ago, bought one or two and a buddy bought one or two different. Ended up with 4 courses for the price of 1. Plus, as far as I can tell, Sony doesn't care. Just limited to 3-5 consoles I believe.

Explain? I have bought 5 extra courses from PSN store. I bought Sheshan, Oakmont, Torrey Pines, Pinehurst, and Wolf Creek.

What do you recommend for "Move" putting, Mac?

A common theme I keep hearing is that putting is a bitch to get used to. I'm planning on getting this sometime this weekend, then taking it when I travel on business. Freaking pumped.

Well I'm playing on Tour Pro, with the putt meter (for now until I can get used to it more). The only reason I play with the putt meter, I never use focus, bc it makes it too arcadey. So it still leaves a very large putting circle in which you still have to judge how it will break at what speed. Through My Golfers stats I'm shooting a 69.3 per round on average. For me if I make it any harder I'll end up frustrating myself way too much.

With the move, I'm hitting a whopping 60% of greens and 53% of fairways :slappy: Those are Mickelson numbers

I'd say I'm averaging 1.6-1.7 putts per hole as well.

Didn't think it would happen after the first three rounds but won the Masters in Year 1 on Tour Pro (Xbox 360) after nearly not qualifying. Went 71, 64, 72, 65. Really got fat on holes 1-3...probably finished around -9 on just those three holes alone. Lit it up on Friday...made two 50+ foot puts on Friday, one for eagle and holed out a wedge for eagle on 7. Went into Sunday down two to Tim Clark and tied with Tiger. Only up one going into 15 but holed out from behind the green and ran away with it.

Not sure how long it will take to go to Tournament difficulty...seems almost cruel with no putt meter.

That's awesome about the Masters! Congrats. I have one tourney left before the Masters to qualify and Im currently 118th.

And yeah, Tournament mode is ridiculous with putting. I really struggled with it because the putting made no sense. I would have to take the putter back for a 15ft putt the same (sometimes) as a 35fter. It was very annoying, frustrating, and confusing

Just shot a 9 under round on TPC Scottsdale in the rain on Tour Pro difficulty.

I actually like rain, putting is more forgiving and being able to "stick" the green really helps get close approaches.

Agreed.

Yeah I shot -10 in the 2nd round (in rain as well) of that tourney. That course is very forgiving with high winds and rain.

I started powering up heavy on the putting right from the beginning...seems to be the easiest place to give away strokes, just like in real life. You get something like 34,000 XP for winning at Augusta so I went from swing and putting ratings in the 50s to in the 70s afterward...and yet still needed extra holes to win the following tournament's challenge: 9-hole match play against Fowler. Did that and the sponsor challenge and called it a night...round 1 of the Texas Open at TPC San Antonio. Really looking forward to The Heritage at Harbour Town next week.

Do you guys find much use in the draw/fade in the control attributes? I play a natural fade in real life and in the game. But Ive found literally no use for those two.

On the Xbox about the only thing I use is the draw on certain drives. Occasionally on long approaches I will use the draw/fade but most of my shot selection has to do with loft and/or choking down. I hate trying to hit 80-95% swings...I look for a combination that is going to leave me as close to a full swing as possible.
