Best Italian beef in the Chicago suburbs?
Johnnie’s Beef in Arlington Hts

Combo of the hot peppers in the sandwich and the chill from the Italian ice lemonade was perfect.

I went to Johnnie’s for lunch today, I live less than 15 minutes away but had never been there.

I went in to the counter and ordered to go, getting a double Italian sausage with peppers for me and an Italian beef au jus for the wife, and I was in and out of there in less than 90 seconds! The food was excellent, thanks for the recommendation.

Saved some old lobster shells and fish skin and made about a quart of stock out of it today. Then I used some of it to deglaze and make a pan sauce. Quite tasty indeed.

Now THAT'S how you do it. BTW, for anyone who may not know, bone in meats make the most flavorful and delicious stews. Your next pot roast go to the Asian market and get a bone in chuck roast. They seem to be the only ones that still sell bone in meat.

I have to confess, I do like turning "trash" into a tasty meal. Whenever I trim chicken of beef I save the trimmings in the freezer. If I have an extra half onion... to the freezer...

This was the first time I tried to make a fish stock, but now that I've proven to Mrs. BKB that it's worth saving fish parts (She reluctantly lets me save the other "trash") I'll make more.... I had to go undercover to do this one. Last time she had lobster, I told her to save the shells. She said, and I quote: "I will not."

So... I snuck them into the freezer when she was out of the room. Same thing with the fish skin. :slappy:
