Fucking Peppermill, Dude. The original is in Reno, and I literally lived up the hill from it. We used to ride our bikes by and try and peek in at all the awesome late 70s cocktail lounge shit that was going on inside.

They built a big casino around it eventually, but when I was a kid, it was a coffee shop/diner restaurant with the awesome 70s leisure suit lounge tucked away in the back half and a cheap drive up motel behind it.

I'm not kidding. That place was like the Forbidden Palace, and a bunch of 5th grade kids riding past on their bikes thought there must have been orgies going on inside it. Fucking Peppermill, Dude. Imagine the disappointment when I went back with a fake ID at nineteen to actually go inside. Yes, it was an awesome over the top Nevada cocktail lounge, but in no way did it match what we thought it was back in fifth and sixth grade--think a porno version of Three's Company.

OK, chile verde simmering in the #22 Cousances (roasted tomatillos, pablanos and garlic + jalapenos, cilantro and chx stock). Little ways to go still but will cook up some Mexican rice and have handmade flour tortillas. Unfortunately, I'm out of tequila.

Tikiyaki Orchestra is the real fucking deal. The best interpreters of mid-century exotica and lounge playing. The rest of the retro bands are all too surf influenced. BTW, the main guy is solid. We follow each other on twitter.
