Thread of What You've Eaten, Cooked and/or Drunk Lately

Inspired by @Buckeyeskickbuttocks I had to break out the pasta maker (as far as the fresh vs. dried debate both serve different purposes and it depends more on the sauce). Decided to try cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper). One of Anthony Bourdain's favorites this is a mo fo of a dish to get right. Going to take a few more tries. Made with fresh tagliolini.

Your comment on the fresh vs. dried pasta is one that I agree with wholeheartedly (it looks like you did a great job on the tagliolini itself BTW). As far as cacio e pepe goes, my wife and I spent five days in Rome last fall, and while all of it is good, Da Felice's cacio e pepe will change your life. Here's a link that agrees with me on that: https://theculturetrip.com/europe/italy/articles/best-cacio-e-pepe-in-rome/

Overall I wasn't happy with the result (but I pretty much knew i wouldn't get close on the first try). I'm psyched to keep trying though.

Saturday's day of watching Rugby and Hockey.

Started out at Fado for Wales-England Rugby. Irish breakfast a few Guiness and an Oban (courtesy of an England fan)

Walked over to Eataly afterwards and grabbed a light lunch at their Alpine restaurant: smoked trout, Gewurztraminer and a flight of 3 amaro from Trentino.

Picked up some Calabrese, Speck and dry aged prime from their retail area.

Then home for Manhattans and salumi, steak and Rioja and Ohio State-tsun hockey.

Today I found Ballreichs' Ghost pepperjack potato chips. outfingstanding! if you like hot and spicy you have to try them. Much better than jalapeno chips. After the first two I had to rinse, after two more my mouth is hot and my nose is running. These are the real deal. ( I also like Carolina Reaper sauce)Picture 1.jpg

Funny story... Took me two fucking hours to find sub buns. I tried Kroger - two separate ones, Giant Eagle, Whole Foods, Pepperidge Farms, Fresh Market, think I'm even forgetting a spot... and finally... subway. It can't really be that hard to find a suitable sub bun. But... here we are...

Oh, it really is that fucking hard. Mostly I surrender and buy baguettes but that might be a little denser that you're looking for here given your desired juice to bread soak needs. Take and bake ones will be lighter but it's another thing to keep an eye on.

Even in the surrender of baguette-land finding good.ones is tough. People run out, le.chaitelaine isnt convenient... And they run out too...
