Pain of Salvation... their first 4 albums are gripping and poignant.

Dream Theater. Best prog metal song of all-time. Without them I don't know how my musical tastes would be shaped currently. Pull me Under.

Life of Agony. Album River Runs Red is so genius. Can't find a decent copy of Bad Seed or Underground so here's the title track, a Dwight Schrute favorite:

From their latest album A Darker Handcraft. The previous album, Seizures in Barren Praise, was vicious too.

Check out Invisible Oranges for new metal reviews and samples.
When I think metal, the first thing that comes to mind is Pantera.

No one, and I mean NO ONE will ever put together as talented and complete a group as Pantera was. Legendary musicians at every position. Rex, Phillip, Vinnie, and Dime.
So I love metal and everyone in this thread, aside from As I lay Dying and All That Remains, posted classic metal. I'm more into the newer age stuff but August Burns Red tends to be well received with most metal fans:

Oh, Sleeper is another band that is blowing up, breakdown at 1:37 is nasty:
Finally my dudes Wolves at the Gate from Springfield, Ohio...they are really blowing up and they aren't strictly metal, but they can destroy on the occasion:

Love this thread and all the bands that are mentioned in it. I am more of old school metal, but I dig the new stuff. I have been watching Metal Evolution in vh1 classic is pretty cool.
