http://theozone.net/Ohio-State/All-...Travel-to-Bowl-Games-Why-Not-Players-Families

A little over a week ago, we, the parents of Ohio State Buckeye football, were excited to learn our team would be getting into the first college football playoffs. We were elated for our boys who had worked so hard and overcome so much to have this opportunity. Our joy was weighted down with the heavy financial burden of inflated bowl travel cost. After a trip to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship, we now have to find a way to afford a trip to New Orleans on New Years and potentially another trip to Dallas for the national championship. That's up to three major travel costs within a month. For a family of four, this trip would cost upwards of $4,500. The NCAA allows for the families of coaches and staff to get their travel and accommodation (cont)

Let me get this straight...someone is seriously suggesting that the university fund the travel expenses for the family of all the players? What's next, fund all the season ticket holders? Fund all alumni travel? Just be glad your son gets a free education at a great university, gets to play for one of greatest college college football programs ever, and has a chance of eventually playing in the NFL. I wonder if those who are complaining about this also travel to the regular-season away games.

Agreed - Annie is a hoot but seriously...free travel for the families? Why? Do colleges give free travel for families to come watch their children graduate? No - yet they should pay that for them to watch a game?

It's a privilege, not a right, to watch your children play in person at that level.

Fellas.. there is a HUGE groundswell around this issue... Annie is very vocal about it.. but Urban has been the MOST vocal and leader of this initiative... Urban stated the other day it would cost Michael Bennett's family over $20,000 to attend B1G championship and both playoff games... He's a HUGE advocate... there are very vocal advocates on every team... not the least of which is Trey dePriest family and a whole bunch of others....

The stance is... the NCAA makes BILLIONS during the bowl season... yet offers nothing to players' families to help with travel/lodging... and travel/lodging expense to bowl games/sites are at a premium as well... the cost per team (for player family subsidies) would be ridiculously small... less than sending the BDBITL.. plus tOSU band offers to subsidize band member families $800 per trip... if you gave every player family a $2000/game subsidy... you're talking $170K.. double it, you're at $340K... vs NCAA billions

Heck, the alumni coffers would probably pay for it if NCAA permitted

I'm with Annie

You make a terrible straw man argument once again. The answer is obviously no to both of those scenarios.

These kids make billions of dollars for other people. Maybe let their families watch them play?

The only question is where you draw the line for what constitutes a family member. You also obviously don't allow them to sell their tickets or travel packages for a profit.

Yeah this is clearly wrong. For fucks sake, if the bowls didn't hand out swag bags, they could fund the parents travel without skipping a beat. It's ok for the jerks in the tacky jackets to take Delaney to tropical resorts to discuss bowls, but don't give these uppity parents a couple plane tickets and a hotel room? Fuck off.

From what I've seen, she hasn't been asking for the school to completely fund, but is saying that if the school wants to completely fund it, they can't. Neither can boosters or anyone else, really. I believe it would even be a violation for me, as a regular joe, to send a gift of any amount towards travel for the bowl. I think the bowl companies are the only ones that could without it being a violation. Of course, we all know they won't forgo a $500k booze cruise to bring the players' families to the bowls.
