The Wit and Wisdom of Annie Apple

How many more pages before somebody claims they could kick Ronda Rousey's ass in a fight?

I could, but Mili may want to check to see if she's a ninja assassin first. Of course, would this be against the NCAA rules? If not, I don't think I can talk about that here, but I could make a ton of money off the match.

EDIT: I have no clue who Ronda Rousey is, but I assume the person to be a girl. Even if the person is a man, the Mili comment still stands.

It makes no economic sense when you have Bowl games not selling all their tickets. A lot of the Bowls will close from lack of making money.
So, how are you going to pay for all the families of the players to travel? It sounds like the Rose Bowl is going to have a hard time selling out even.
Money drives all of this. No money no Bowls.

If the market worked that way... but in this case a majority of the bowls are propped up or owned outright by ESPN, and haven't sold out in years. In fact, we've actually added bowls over the past 5 years (including the Championship Game)... more than 50% of FBS teams go to a bowl. I guess that makes sense in our "everyone is special, everyone gets a trophy" environment.

The lack of sell outs is what makes the pricing and University expenses so ridiculous- the "Eat More Cheese" bowl will mandate that Michigan buys 4000 tickets at full price, when the game itself gives tickets away to area residents to ensure that the game has a respectable crowd for TV.

Then, they'll put everyone (both teams' fans) on the side of the field opposite of the cameras so it doesn't look like a complete crapfest.

I'd love for a team to bring their band, not buy tickets, and then just pick up 400 or so right at gametime to screw with the bowl foundation and save the University money.

In this line, it's also worth noting that while there are no additional payouts for going to the final, there is a $2mil/game travel allowance.

So we should cancel all bowls until Youngstown St. can go. Everyone should get bowl practices too, regardless of record.
What is this participation award nonsense?
There's different rules and different tiers of competition with different benefits. Life isn't "fair".
Uhh the life isn't fair line could just as simply be used in terms of the parent needing to pay their way to see these games. I suspect it will stay that way.

It could. But the question isn't whether they "should" but whether NCAA shall mandate that they shouldn't. And since you've already noted the recruiting bonus for schools that can afford it...
