The Spring Game: Saturday, April 16, 2022

liked the aggressiveness the back 5 played. At least it seemed to me there were 5 DBs on every play. they should get much better, given the class of the QB and the WRs that basically ruled the roost. OL seemed to be solid, as the DL looked as if they were getting after it every play (big difference from last season). Sorry folks, but I have to refer to my scorecard to see who's number is who's name, and jerseys without names didn't help me much. So don't know when a 2 replaces a 1, and what combination of OL/DL was being used. LB play still didn't look impressive, too many runs through teh gut, and not seeing any OL get to the second level. All in all, typical Spring Game. Vanilla D, touch on runs, wholesale passing attack. Guess the D eats hot dogs, and the O eats steak(?) after the game. Glad to see many young 'uns get 'blooded', could see their excitement.

- Interesting defensive fronts. A little of that Big 12 flavor and that new-rage tite (404 303)
- Miyan can be an every down back. Not the muscle hamster, he's new hamster. What's bigger than that though? Can we call just call him Porkins?
- If Day is set from playing under center more, I'm ALL for that. I think the offensive evolutionary vs defensive life cycle will eventually bring being under center back to a lot of college teams. But Stroud is really going to have to work on that ball action fake. Sell those hands. If you're gripping the rock with both, no quality linebackers are falling for that coming from under your center.

Just sitting down to watch the game tonight. At half time. The tribute was tough to get through.

That said, WTF is the Spring Athletic Band? That was well… not TBDBITL. I don’t ever need to see them march again.

That tribute was incredible but yeah, I couldn't barely make it through. Whoever put that together though, incredible job and I am glad they did that even though it was impossible to keep a dry eye. The interviews from BTN and the commentary were also very tasteful and well done. Very happy to see Fields and Olave in the house, two of my favorites.

On overall impressions of the game after watching it again, the DBs looked much better in coverage and being in the right decision. Really hope that plays out this season, because I have zero concerns on the front 7, at least not now because I think Sawyer, JTT, Tyleik, Eichenberg, etc. are going to take huge steps. If Knowles is halfway decent, I think the defense will do its job.

Did BTN show the "Past, Present" Future" video that was played in the 2nd half of the game? It gave everyone chills, and was definitely used as a recruiting tool.

And IDK what got people choked up more at the game, the moment of silence at the beginning of the game or the video of Haskins. He certainly made his mark in the hearts of our fanbase.

11W's film study articles are always interesting.

"We always talk about coverage and rush working together," Knowles said in an interview last summer. "Everybody’s worried about the coverage, but the rush has a faster opportunity to affect the play, so get some guys in there that are just going to be bowling balls with butcher knives."

Yeah, get after the QB like bowling balls with butcher knives.....

I volunteer to sharpen those knives.
