The proper response to "O-H!"...

spin360;1203937; said:
Why's that? Because I don't like to constantly yell O-H-I-O? I didn't realize that was a requirement to be a fan :roll2:

If you don't like my drunk ass yelling OH on the campus; at the school that I go to; then don't come. I'm sure there would be someone who would be VERY happy to sit in your seat. That's like going to a baseball game and saying that the "Take me out to the ballgame" is annoying. :shake:

If you don't like the college atmostphere and all that goes along with it, go to NFL games then. I'm quite offended that someone who claims to be an OSU fan, thinks that OH-IO is annoying outside of the stadium.

How does my stadium seat have anything to do with what I was talking about? Don't even bother responding if you can't come up with a competent rebut.

If you don't enjoy something that mkes OSU games unique don't go at all because there are other people out there that would love to yell I-O a thousand times because they are what shuold be one of the best football enviroments around...Don't even bother responding if you don't understand the insult.

its not annoying but it does get a bit rediculous. especially when freshmen who have never had a beer before get drunk and yell it for 2 hours straight. trust me, i know because i was once one of them.

His argument was based upon what goes on within the stadium, I simply stated that the whole OHIO chant outside of the stadium during game days can get annoying. You both sure know how to take things out of context and blow it up. A trait of smart individuals I would say.

Wow and really, the O-H thing, I am hurt! :(

I am a big fan of the O-H-I-O chant on gameday, or when the season is kicking. But, I also think that some people overuse it........say in May or something like that. Say, I will use yesterday for an example. I was in a restaurant, and there was a lady there who started saying "O-H", wanting a response.........mind you this was lunch........in a restaurant (not a bar...and it was far from campus).

I think that some people tend to bust out this chant as some sort of way to boast their fanhood. Quite frankly, I am a big fan of the chant......especially when the season is nearing (or in full swing). But, I just think that it gets overused, and I find myself cringing at times when people start bursting it out randomly. Sorry, I know that that may sound crazy and all........but I really think that if you live in Columbus (and aren't on campus), you probably agree with me at times. It seems like the people who bust the chant out the most are the ones that don't live around here........which is fine, just don't question someone's "fanhood" for not going crazy over it. The simple fact that we are all here on an OSU message board having this conversation says enough about our passion as fans IMHO.

Well the pitching was absolutely dreadful last night, for anyone that didn't see. I'd have to say the highlight of attending the game was some guy walking up to me saying "O-H!!!", in which I replied with "I-O!!!" lol. Awesome seats and awesome weather for a game, too bad the Sox couldn't pull it out.

OK, so I just got back from vacation in Chicago and Wisconsin and I was happy to see a lot of Buckeyes... problem is no-one seemed to know the proper response to "O-H!"

In Chicago, I'm walking down the street and my daughter points out a guy walking the other direction in an OSU shirt and hat. When he gets close I call out "O-H!" and he looks right at me puzzled. As we pass, I point to his hat (I'm wearing one too and my daughter's in her #10 jersey) and say "Go Bucks!" The guy looks at me like I'm from another planet. It bothered me a little, but I thought to myself, "maybe he doesn't speak English" or "maybe he's not that big a fan" and let it go.

Later in the Nike store while looking at OSU and other BigTen school's stuff I see another guy in an OSU shirt, looking at another OSU shirt and I say "O-H!" He ignored it so I said, "Go Bucks" and he kind of smiled and went back to looking at the shirt. I expected more from a guy looking to purchase additional OSU gear, but again, I just let it go.

A few days later at a waterpark in Wisconsin, I was walking with my kids and my OSU fan niece and TSUN fan nephew (I know... I blame the parents) and I see this guy in an OSU hat, OSU jersey, OSU shorts and bright red shoes. Remembering Chicago, I almost let it go, but I wanted to show my nephew how real OSU fans could great each other anywhere and this guy was decked out... obviously a huge fan... so I gave it one more shot. I very loudly yelled out "O! H!"... nothing. I looked right at him not 10 feet away and complete with hand motions yelled it again... slower and more carefully enunciated... nothing. After he passed, I yelled back, "You're supposed to say 'I-O!'" to which he blushed and gave a very feeble "i-o."

Moral of the story is this... If you are decked out in OSU gear from head to foot... at least know the proper response to "O-H!" :(

O-H...

Thats why since '06 my first question to people I see wearing gear in Las Vegas is " Are you a fan?" So far 100% of the people who said "NO, I am a Buckeye" have said I-O.

Morale of the story = There are fans and then there are Buckeyes.
