A fair point. tOSU is like a giant among children. But ORD threw out the conference card. NEVER throw out the conference card. tOSU IS the fucking conference. Then. Now. Future. It just is.

The point that I threw out is that the SEC and their little ESPN mandated sidekick are doing everything they can to rig the playoff in their favor: i.e. ESPN Invitational. The only conference that swings a big enough dick to fight back is the Big Ten, and it's time for Delaney to stop thinking he's in some kind of partnership with the SEC and his job is to protect the bowls and to start fighting like a hard, pipe-hitting motherfucker for what's best for the Big Ten and the economic interests of the region whose schools employee him. That's the point I was throwing out.

Maybe, just maybe, y'all could work on getting more of your conference members involved in those MNC games than just tOSU and TSUN. Just a thought.

1. M*ch*gan has not been involved in a MNC game. They haven't really been in the conversation. Meh - maybe they were in 2003. A little. They may have finished #4, so they might have been in a 4-team playoff. And in 2016 they were #3 when they came to Columbus. But then they finished #3 in the Big Ten East.
2. More Big Ten teams WOULD have more teams in the championship race if it weren't for Ohio State. Like someone else said, Ohio State IS the conference. Ohio State has dominated the conference possibly more than any team has dominated any conference since the start of the BCS. And I'm talking about conference wins and losses. All conference champions since 2013 either WERE Ohio State or had to beat Ohio State. And 2012, the conference champions were Wisconsin, because Ohio State was ineligible from post-season. 2011, Ohio State beat the conference champions (Wisconsin). Going farther back, 2004 was the last time a team didn't need to beat Ohio State to win the conference. So, no, I don't think anyone here is going to work on getting more of "our" conference members involved.
3. I'm not talking for anyone else on this point, but I don't think of the Big Ten as "our" conference. Ohio State belongs to the Big Ten and I have no problem with that. I feel no desire to root for any other team in the conference. You'll never hear me chant "BIG TEN BIG TEN BIG TEN". The SEC comes across, to me, as a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" group of bandwagon fans. Do Kentucky fans feel pride when Alabama wins the national championship? Bleh.

@Zurp - as to your point number three....

I couldn't agree more. I had this very discussion with a friend of mine who lives down Jawja way. I said something about how the SEC teams, outside of Bama, were over rated. He took that and started asking me questions like "Well, who has Ohio State beat" and I said "I didn't say anything about Ohio State. I said the SEC is over rated. That doesn't say anything about whether or not Ohio State is" He then goes into the SEC SEC SEC business we're all so familiar with. Finally, I said "I don't root for a conference. It doesn't matter to me if the B1G is better or worse that the SEC.. the ACC the BigXII... it just doesn't matter to me. Look how stupid this reads: GO AFC NORTH!!" At no time did he mention that he had a favorite team which he was rooting for in the conference, and I honestly don't think he cares whether it is Kentucky or Alabama... so long as it's SEC. I just don't understand it.

I think there's some middle ground between full on B1G!B1G!B1G! and saying "who cares about the B1G; I don't care if every other team loses every non-conference game they play in." My point, as I clarified it to Gator, has nothing to do with rooting for other teams but is rather a realization that at some point the B1G needs to fight the SEC-ESPN-ACC troika for its spot at the table. Forget the axis of evil is playing chess while we're playing checkers analogy. They're playing Game of Thrones while we're playing checkers is more like it. And the B1G needs to realize that, and not only does that justify Ohio State having a vested interest in the B1G overall and letting go of the notion that we somehow float above such matters (hey, don't look now, but we're about to float out of the playoffs despite being B10 champs for the second year in a row!), it also means that we need the other FOX conferences and even the god damned G5s on our side if we're going to change the rotten system into which the playoffs have devolved.

AFC North! AFC North! AFC North!

It just rolls off the tongue. No way in hell will I ever root for Pittsburgh or Cleveland. Fuck Baltimore, too.

I root for B1G teams in bowl games except for TTUN. I always root for them lose in some heartbreaking fashion.

Well, if a smart kid hangs around with the smart kids, more people will probably think the kid is smart. If the smart kids hangs around with the dumb kids, more people will probably think the smart kid is dumb. Now the smart kid is equally smart in both groups, but the company kept affects the optics. He can bitch about the unfairness of life, but that will not change the reality of life and the way that perceptions are formed and maintained.

I think know that any individual SEC team gets more love from being in the SEC than tOSU - or Texas say - gets from being in their respective conferences. That this is a thing shows up by y'all often commenting about ranking when SEC teams gets beaten. That subject is almost a BP mantra in all football threads. So I take it as a given that SEC schools are unfairly given more love because of the conference reputation.

I think Ord is saying that tOSU as a program occasionally has a bit more lead weight it is carrying in the ranking/playoff race due to the B1G's historical top heavy success - one continuously excellent program - a fact viewed by some as a negative in their analysis. See UCF as the worst example of conference optics being an anchor. (To be fair, the strength of tOSU and its storied history almost always bursts through any perception of conference negatives.) But as we saw in the TSUN-UF battle for BCS # 2 spot in 2006, small perceptions can have HUGE consequences.

Sometimes is seems like y'all are the smart kid hanging with the dumb kids and bitching about some folks doubting how smart you really are. And like that kid, your complaints of it being unfair, accurate or no, will never be addressed. 'Cause reality.

Let me clarify my point a little. I like or dislike teams - not based on conference. I might root for Iowa to beat USC or Florida, or Minnesota to beat Wyoming. But I don't say, "OOHHH!! Big Ten-ACC matchup! Go Big Ten!!!" But, "Hm - Rutgers is playing NC State. That might be cool if Rutgers won."

I guess here's another way to look at it: Appy State vs. M*ch*gan was one of the greatest non-Buckeye games I can think of. Would Tennessee fans be happy if Auburn lost to South Central Louisiana Tech School for Dentists?

Except that it's not the conference rep. It's Alabama's rep.

As I said earlier, since the mid-90s, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia have competed for the National Championship under whatever system was in place. Twice, including last year, two SEC teams faced each other in that game.

Now, I would not expect this board to give any props the hated SEC for anything. But to say that Bama is viewed by the football world as the sole SEC power program, is simply untrue. When making a statement about how the football world sees the SEC, the opinion of Gator or Buckeye fans is entirely irrelevant. Of greater import is how the non-SEC and non-B1G fans view the strength of the conferences. And if you poll them, the SEC would be seen as stronger. Which can hurt tOSU, no matter the underlying truth of the opinion. Which was, I think, Ord's point.

Totally agree. Above all things, know thyself.

Same as when Tressel was here and people were whining about the B1G getting picked on in the media; OSU wins the big games and it goes away. Now you take the ass beating from Clemson in '16 with the inexcusable Iowa/Purdue/almost Maryland nonsense and we are back to 2007 in the national perception. Stove the skulls of the lesser teams and show the fuck up for a playoff game a couple years back and it's a different narrative.

However, OSU shouldn't always have to go undefeated and win every game by 35 points. ESPN, the SEC/ACC and the CFP are in bed together and it's not even being all that well disguised.

I will be very interested to see what happens if OSU ends up being a 1 loss B1G champ this year in terms of the playoff.

First things first.
