The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

your memory is quite terrible.

OSU didn't have a LB unit in 12, so Boren rescued them.
OSU didn't have any defense in 13 and only occasionally a passing game.
OSU was weak to average for most of 14 and great during one trip to EL. There's a reason they were underdogs before a 59 pt rout.
They didn't try once before AA in 15.
The offense struggled too often in 16 ending with a hideous playoff game.
The offense and defense had major struggles in 17.

Most of all, that 14 team was nothing like that before the postseason.

Even that amazing trilogy run involved some pretty improbable plays. They do not win it if Lane keeps feeding Henry, or if Miller does not catch a TD pass from Alabama, or if Spencer does not make the greatest end zone throw in the history of the school. Oh and that amazing trick play? It was his third biggest play of the game.

I disagree about the trip to face MSU. Pretty sure they gave up around 600 yards. They were getting shredded.

Edit: pretty sure you were talking about the offense. Point taken.

Other than that, I agree. People forget how much that team struggled and are blinded by a 3-game stretch.

"You think OSU was screwed"
"You think nothing matters"
Etc
no they shouldn't, they simply weren't good enough this year. That's ok. It's not a birthright no matter how savagely this era has blinded people and robbed them of their joy.
win the games you can. There is no should.

Also, since it didn't sink in the last seventy times, we all watched the games. We are familiar with why OSU isn't in. That's not the topic we are discussing.
It does when you're required to win 1 more game than a team that didn't earn a single thread of the coattails they are riding.

That's what you can't get through your head during these outrageously narrow conversation subtopics that you keep throwing in everyone's faces as reality.
Exactly WHY does it matter if we are 5 or 6?

Simple answer. It doesn't. If you aren't 1-4, you aren't anything special for the year.

The world ain't fair...... I'm SHOCKED...... SHOCKED.......

If it's a real ranking, it's troubling for the future. Or what would have happened if OU had not woken up on Sat.

It's troubling that their financial partner was championing UGA moving UP after that loss.

ESPN/ABC has deals with several conferences, including the B1G and SEC, right?

They benefit whether it's an SEC or B1G team in the mix. Prove me wrong. The contract with the B1G was signed not that long ago...... I dunno about the SEC, but I'm sure they have one.

Disney owns 80% of the SEC network. Disney owns TV rights to SEC and big ten games. Disney and fox share the rights to big ten football games, though Disney is definitely the second class citizen when it comes to rights to pick games which is why many of the best games are on Fox. Fox owna half of the BTN. it's not a coincidence that their much smarter version of Herbie name Joel klatt is much more balanced when it comes to the SEC and tends to be a little kinder to the big ten

The best thing for any network is to have a Midwest power House on the screen. The narrative has never been kind to the B1G outside of one offseason or two in the last few decades.

It's more likely that herbie is once again championing stupid viewpoints that are overwhelmingly pro sec, but as the mouthpiece of network that owns the playoff, it's troubling.

They may have a contract to show BIG games, but just like FOX owns the BIG network ESPN owns the SEC network. Hence, financial interest in how this all plays out on their CFP.
Why? The SEC network either lives or dies based on how the teams PLAY.

Guess what, Bama, from the SEC, has EARNED its way into the CFP almost every year. That's not ESPNs fault. Blame perhaps-one possible year- where there was potential bias out of what..... 7, 8, 9? tOSU also got in on dicy terms once too.

I'm over it.

Win games, win championships. Lose games, just don't lose games you shouldn't. Why was this so easy when Woody screamed it for decades....... and so hard now.

Don't beat yourself. Don't accept losing. Don't CHASE..... LEAD.

You listen to those fuckers, eh? I could give 0.00001 shits what they say unless they're pointing out something via replay or whatever that wasn't on the screen previously.

Their commentary matters exactly ZERO. It's opinion..... commentary. It's annoying about 80% of the time REGARDLESS of what they say. If they want to throw in an insight into what HAPPENING on the field, I'm in. If they want to swing their dick about how good this conference is or that one is....... show me the damn wins.

What those bastards SAY means.... again..... nothing. Show me the games. Show me the field. Show me the play. Show me the score. I'm a grown man. I don't need, nor listen, to political pundits or football pundits. Why should we care what they say? What can they change?

Not sure what you are arguing or what your driving at.

I saw Woody tie a bad Baylor team and get hung in effigy on High Street.

no, I do not, but I'm in the minority.

Most of the country and pollsters have bought into the supremacy of the league and instantly forgot their postseason (meanwhile it takes half a decade or more to overcome a bad bowl season for the B1G). That impacts positioning and polls.

It results in nonsense like UK/A&M rankings this year, wildly overrating the Cajun version of Bucky (or at least usual Bucky), or the MS rankings in years past.

I don't care if the country forgets where Columbus is. I don't think the damn coaches are listening to pundits..... I'm sorry if you do, but I've met one or two in my life who were quick to say, "Get your ass on the sidelines in a uniform or clipboard (I'm old) before you start telling me what football is." As for the AP..... and they matter exactly zero.

As an aside, I believe the Coaches and AP have tOSU at 5, right? So much for the pundits bias there.

You're suggesting the CFP is somehow "rigging" things with Gene Smith sitting right there? Okay........ you don't think he'd speak up if he caught a whiff of that?
