The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

The entire thread is about how "unfair" the poll rankings are. I'm not going argue semantics, but saying.... "There's no way we shouldn't be ahead of GA" and "OSU has to go undefeated unlike SEC teams" is DEFINITELY implying "we got screwed."

It's whining..... and it's beneath tOSU. Perform on the damn field, don't beat yourself, execute....... and the damn bastards cannot screw you.

Perhaps you'd like to argue this was a damn fine Buckeye team? I wouldn't. Earlier this season NOBODY HERE thought this was a damn fine team.

Now, suddenly, they're fucking top 4? 5? Seriously? What were they around week 6?

I have a hypothetical. Suppose that this season went exactly as is has except for the following two things:

1.Ohio State, even though it looked shitty in doing so, managed to eke out an ugly win over Purdue.

2. Georgia squeaked out a close win over Alabama.

Should undefeated Ohio State be left out on the basis of the eye test while both Georgia and Alabama get in?

Look, the rankings were pretty screwed for me when KY got anywhere. I've got some good insight into that program...... and it's weak to the core. Yeah, yeah, they're SEC... and that matters and that's not fair.

I'm too freaking old to worry about all the crap in this world and the CFP that's unfair. Honestly, the B1G used to get extra respect in rankings too...... decades ago, but true nonetheless.

I do know whining about shit isn't what I do.... nor what tOSU does. The committee is.... and does.... what it does. Unfair? Likely. SEC friendly? Doubtlessly.

Still, what would you think the odds would be for OSU vs GA? Hell, I'd be worried with this team vs OU or ND...... both of whom are overrated. But GA? I'd rather try Clemson...... ugh...... terrible memory.

Why exactly does "what would the betting line be" matter?

Vegas sets betting lines based on public perception at the time to get money on both sides. What does that have to do with anything that would actually happen on the field?

Michigan was favored to beat us and look what happened......we were sure as hell favored to beat Purdue and look what happened. "What would the betting line be" is a pretty dumb argument.

In a fair world, OSU goes in. With today's committee, it's a toss up.

Still, tOSU has looked weak all year, until they really needed it against ttun. Before that...... seriously..... it was WTF EVERY DAMN GAME in some way.

THAT'S my thing. Some folks, it seems, suddenly want "all is forgiven" absolution and to somehow annoint this team because they fucking woke up against ttun. Well, I'm damn glad they did......but my memory isn't that bad. WE DAMN NEAR LOST TO MD....... remember? WE DAMN NEAR LOST TO PSU...... remember?

This simply isn't a stellar year......but for a couple of plays, we're hovering around, I dunno, 11 or 12? Let's be thankful.

Oklahoma, the more worthy choice, closed the season with:

4 Opponents that averaged a losing season (7, 6, 9 & 3 losses respectively)

They surrendered 2,341 yds of offense and 213 pts in those contests. 40 pts was their best defensive outing (against 3-9 KU).

So....... let's put it another way, would you put big money on OSU over GA? I wouldn't..... I'd pass on that bet because I don't like to be against the good guys.

It would settle some shit, for sure. And God knows we need to find more ways to get to the SEC and whip some ass, but this year...... if you've got a good feeling about our secondary vs Fromm...... I don't.

For the record OU sucks..... and is about to get jailhouse fucked for their unfortunate inclusion into the dance.

Still, this constant diversion away from what WE LOOKED LIKE to others is annoying.

C'mon, step forward and say, "This was a damn good year for the Buckeyes. They looked good this year."

I don't bet one teams i'm a fan of so that's kind of a question that doesn't matter to me.

I'm just wondering AT THIS MOMENT, what makes UGA that much better than Ohio State in your eyes?

You can say all you want about Ohio State's earlier struggles, but as of recent (the last 2 games) i'd say Ohio State has looked better than UGA has at their best this season. Bama probably played their worst game of the season on Saturday along with Tua getting knocked out and UGA could not take advantage of it.

ND would be out.

We would have stayed at 2/3 all year then, and no-conference ND would have one less win and one less SEC than the top 4.

But to answer your question, should they? Fuck no!

Okay, no betting..... what would guess would be the score between GA and OSU? I'll go first..... 38 - 21, and not the good guys. That damn secondary vs Fromm wouldn't be pretty. GA's defense (and yes, I watched the excellent work against ttun) would be a problem for MOST of the tOSU I saw this year.

Is confidence up? Thankfully. Is execution improved? For our defense, yep.... offense, lots of stupid penalities on offense, still, against NW. Is Haskins running on all cylinders? Absolutely. Do we still call some shitty East-West running plays at the worst time? Yes, but a few less recently.

Do I complete confidence in this team? Frankly, I'm worried about Washington...... much less a GA. Hell, I want to believe we would be ND, I hate ND..... but I've been burned too often by this year's lack of discipline and execution. The defense, at times..... you did watch the MD game????...... is throw a football into the TV terrible.

OSU vs GA would NOT be a fun game for OSU.

It's just been a mediocre year all around for college football. I'll keep repeating but after about the top 6 there is a significant drop off. 9-3 and "top 10/15" this year really doesn't mean much. Just means that said teams are I guess the "best" out of a largely mediocre-average crop. Washington and Florida might be the 2 worst "top 10" teams ive ever witnessed. Penn State was on the cusp of getting there too. That says a lot about how down of a year this was for basically the whole nation.

i agree completely.
but as an LSU fan, i want what’s best for LSU long term.
and at the moment, extending O probably isn’t best for us.

but our incompetent AD as well as the O-bots are pointing to this #11 ranking and Fiesta bowl bid as “proof” O is waaaay better than Miles.
Miles needed to go. But he got canned for a season identical to this one.
They are also saying it’s our best bowl (non-CG) since ‘06 Sugar, so it’s obviously better. ignoring that multiple times under Les at 10-2 we fell all the way down to peach(5th choice amongst SEC bowls at the time), because the conference and country were just better back then.

It's also interesting to me that you want to hinge the OSU season on two good games and the GA season on two (1&1/2 really) bad games.

Let's judge OSU on Purdue and MD...... two games we should've lost and one we had ZERO business actually losing. Let's talk about how we pulled it out against PSU or how Corn put fear in us.

It's wonderful to want to judge an entire season on 2 good games...... it's just not practical.

So basically you don't want anyone to whine about the playoff committee because it makes us look bad but you want to keep whining about how the team played this year because of how many times you've been "burned."

Got it.

Second time this year I've had to use the fucking ignore feature when it went untouched for the first 13 years of BP

Place is turning into Bucknuts with some of the 7th grade posters

I'm not whining one damn bit. I'm giving my opinion about how the damn season looked.

STILL..... you, nor anyone else, has stepped up to say, "What a great year this was to be a Buckeye. This team looked great." Yeah, they looked great in TWO DAMN GAMES against opponents that mattered a lot. Otherwise, they simply didn't.

Deny that.

Screw you if you don't like the reality of the season.

Ohio State is unquestionably better now than when they faced Nebraska Purdue and Maryland........teams are allowed to get better later in the year, you know? Too late this year for Ohio State's case but IMO they are clearly a different team now.

You focus all on Ohio State's bad. But Ohio State's good is >>>>>>>>> Georgia's good, and Ohio State is just now starting to hit their stride. Too bad they couldn't get there earlier in the season, but it is what it is now.

For those keeping track at home, this is:

24 pts better than their margin vs 13-0 Bama
37 pts better than their margin vs 9-3 LSU
03 pts better than their margin vs 8-4 Mizzou*
Equal to their margin vs 7-5 Aub
Equal to their margin vs 9-3 UF

* - aided by an outrageous non-whistle on stopped progress, leading to a strip and return for 6, when Mizzou was about to score
