The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

Preseason rankings absolutely dictate the whole season, and they are all based off nothing but speculation.

All it takes is a couple of teams that are ranked way too highly based off said speculation to upset the balance of the whole rest of the season.

preseason polls are a fucking joke.
Miami was a preseason too 10

they’re now 5-7 over their last 12 games.
including 4 losses to unranked teams.

the Orgeron loving nimrods from our fanbase are still touting that as a great Top-10 victory.

Theres at least 1 team every year that you go back and laugh at ever being ranked that high in the preseason.

A great flaw in lots of "strength of schedule" arguments. Claiming wins over ranked teams at the end of the season because they were ranked when you played them......if you beat the "#1" team in week 1 and that team goes 8-4. You shouldnt still be claiming a win against "THE TOP TEAM" at the end of the season when it actually matters. Alabama fans in particular seem to be kings of the "well so and so was ranked when we beat them earlier in the season" argument.

Miami isnt the only team this year though, and they may not have even been the worst oversight

Using the AP preseason top 25:

Wisconsin started the season #4
Washington started the season #6
Auburn started #9
Stanford started #13
USC Started #15
TCU started #16
Florida State started #19

To a lesser extent of disappointment Penn State and Sparty were 10/11

They got basically 1/3rd of the top 25 preseason terribly wrong.......and this is the starting point off which the rest of the season is based. Awful.

Here is my idea (from the pure capitalist voice in my head):

If you want to vote, fine. Pollsters put money down.

Real money.

Wins and losses will add and subtract accordingly.

Carrots for closest to the pin, sticks for missing.

Over inflated suck job, daughetr's pink fluffy stuffed animal soft NC State loses at home to undermanned Wake weak dick fucking Forest? You had a vote that put them in top 25?

Costs the mortgage payment.

I bet your ass will think next time you stupid sonofabitch.

You will either think or go broke and quit. Either way we will get intelligent voting and if the whole fucking system is based on voting then it shouldn't be too much to ask.

sorry for rant 3+ cocktail lunch

Of course we could just get rid of polls and voting all together and go with league champions, sort of like the NFL does. Is a weak team going to slip in from time to time sure but you earn it on the field and 1 loss no matter how bad or close it was doesn’t necessarily end your chances.

only works in the NFL because divisions are, relatively, equal and teams all play each other.

In CFB the 2nd or 3rd place team in one conference could be one of the 4 best teams in the entirety of CFB.

I want no auto bid for a 3-4 loss PAC12 team just because someone has to win the conference.

I'm for something along the lines of:

5 auto bids from the P5, and then 3 at large (G5, all SEC, whatever). Let the committee act like the basketball one. Take the givens, choose the at large, then seed them. Send the lower ranked team to the higher ranked ones for the first round, then treat final 4 as now. If a 4 loss Pac 12 team gets the 7/8 seed, send 'em to Bama/Columbus/Clemson and let them see how the top teams play. 3 SEC teams top 8? Well, let's see which one wins 3 games, potentially one in the north for a change.

Big10 would never be seeded in this format, and therefore be asked to play 3 straight road games.
No the sites must be preset like CCGs; including several in NW Pacific, Midwest, and NE

I'd settle for that, like the basketball does. Eastern, Southern, Midwestern and Western region, seeds get "closest" by rank. Let NFL cities host: Minneapolis, Indy, Detroit, New York/Jersey, LA, Denver, etc.

I hear you but I would rather have a conference champion than the BS we are currently seeing. At least they won it on the field instead of being gifted it by a biased committee...
