If A&M had totally destroyed Tennessee today they may have a case but that didn’t happen. Do you think they’ll put A&M up at four for a rematch with Alabama, or put them at number three past an undefeated Ohio State?

I don't think anyone would dispute the fact that NW is better than Sparty. I just wonder what they would have been rated if they had beaten Sparty. Anyway, I'm sure if they had, they would have gotten a lot more respect from the "talking heads" and it would have given Ohio State a much higher "quality win", etc.

Northwestern and Indiana are nice feel-good stories but they're still "Indiana" and "Northwestern". They're the only teams we played over .500, and our QB didn't look good in either game. We can talk about why but it's simply the case.

I think we'll get in, but I'm not sure I want to watch that game (spoiler: I will). Six games in 9 weeks stunted the growth of our team, unfortunately. Going against teams of similar talent who have played a full season is not in our favor.

The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
  • Conference championships won,
  • Strength of schedule,
  • Head-to-head competition,
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
  • Other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team's performance during the season or likely will affect it's postseason performance.
Q: How will the selection committee factor in conference-only schedules? How will you decide between top teams without inter-conference head-to-head competition or shared opponents?
A: The protocol for ranking the teams has not changed. The selection committee will continue to watch games, assess every team, and use the available data. A lot of football has been played and remains to be played, even with mostly conference-only schedules. The selection committee will continue to use factors such as wins against top 25 teams, wins against teams with winning records, and their expertise to come together and select the best four teams week by week.

Just sayin': Supposedly the CFP Committee just ranks the 4 best teams, possible match ups of games played is not suppose to be a factor. The best team will be #1, the second best will be #2.....etc. Since Ohio State, Clemson, and (probably) Alabama will have won a conference championship; if Texas A&M does get in, I can't see them any higher than #4.

11W thinks it will likely be Clemson #2 vs Ohio State #3 in a CFP semifinal game.

With the decisive loss, Notre Dame will likely fall below Ohio State in the College Football Playoff rankings. If Alabama beats Florida in the SEC title game as a 17-point favorite, it would likely set up a rematch of last year's playoff semifinal in which the Tigers beat the Buckeyes 29-23.

If we get in and get blown out I'll be sure to remind you of this post. I recall similar conversations before OSU got routed 31-3 by Clemson not so long ago, and some of us suspected that was going to happen based on how we stumbled into the CFP.

Whether we like or not, the Bucks haven't been what we want them to be in 2020 (and we can thank our conference for that).

22-10 over Northwestern

If our name wasn't "Ohio State" no one would look at that resume' and think top-four team. If we get in they're giving us the benefit of the doubt. We'll need to play a helluva lot better than what we saw today to avoid getting embarrassed on a national stage. Kid yourself in the meantime, if necessary.

For the record I hope you're right and I'm wrong. Seeing the Bucks win is far more important to me than having my "football intelligence", as I saw someone say it today, validated to a bunch of people I've never met. I'm still laughing at that guy.

I’ll tell you what, I’m absolutely tired of every waning minute being consumed by playoff talk.

Watching a game: 2nd and 7...4 yard run by Teague in the 2nd quarter.
Announcer: Now I have to ask...what does that gain mean for Ohio State’s playoff chances??!!

It’s just fucking exhausting. And I say that as a fan of a team that is in this discussion every year. I can’t imagine this is any fun for the 120 other D-1 programs that don’t and will never have a shot. They have their games hijacked by “who’s in” talk every week. I can’t get away from it no matter what game I have on. We all now have playoff-disease brains that can’t even process. It’s just mush and hurr durr playoffs!!1!

I love college football. My favorite sport. But damn if there aren’t times where I’m ready for the house of cards (NCAA/E!SPN/etc etc) to fall in and watch it burn. Maybe what comes out of it will be actual enjoyment instead of miserable handwringing. I won’t hold my breath.

So either you get to dance on top of your team's tears to mock those who deluded themselves into believing they had a chance or you enjoy their unexpected win. Interesting win win situation you've setup.

There are more options than self trolling or delusion. Hope does not require blindness.

Eh, I'm not confident either, I think we are definitely one of the playoff teams this year but kind of like oklahoma was last year. Yeah we are top 4 but we dont really match up well against Bama or Clemson. Honestly I'd rather play Bama I feel like we would have a better chance to race them than to play a complete game against Clemson. Especially with whatever kinda voodoo curse they put on us

CFP semifinal moved from Rose Bowl to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas

The College Football Playoff semifinal scheduled to take place at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, has been moved to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Rose Bowl announced Saturday. The game will take place on Jan. 1 and be broadcast by ESPN.

According to the release, the decision to move the game was based on the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Southern California, along with the inability for players' and coaches' families to attend because of state restrictions during the pandemic. Since March, all sporting events in California have been unable to host fans and participants' families. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses made its first appeal for a special exemption at the Rose Bowl Game in November and followed up with a second request to the state this month. Both requests were denied.

According to reports on Saturday, the Tournament of Roses had asked state health officials to allow 400 to 500 spectators in the 95,000-seat stadium.

"We know that the decision was not an easy one to make," said David Eads, CEO and executive director of the Tournament of Roses, in a statement. "While we remain confident that a game could have been played at the Rose Bowl Stadium, as evident in the other collegiate and professional games taking place in the region, the projection of COVID-19 cases in the region has continued on an upward trend."

The Tournament of Roses also stated that "with significant strain on medical resources throughout Los Angeles County ... the well-being of the student-athlete needs to come first and that continues to be our top priority."

It hasn't been determined if the CFP semifinal in Dallas will be called the CFP Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One. The name is part of the Master License Agreement and is co-owned by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the city of Pasadena.

Yeah, but that was batting .667; besides Ohio State, there were only 3 other teams with a winning record in the B1G and Ohio State did play 2 of them. The other was Iowa.
