I'm not gonna say we were fucked, but it's not exactly case closed, either. By almost every metric that you look at, our season was more impressive than LSU's. The only argument I would make for them would be that they had a better win than we did. But we played comparable schedules....and looked better doing it. We both had lethal offenses, but only one of us had an elite D to go with it. I think all of our non conference games were against teams who played for their conference championship. And we were sitting at 1 before the last game of the season. They beat a depleted Georgia, we were down big at halftime against arguably a better Wisconsin. That shouldn't have been enough to erase the entire season of us looking better than they did.
If we play Oklahoma first...even with an injured Fields, while LSU and Clemson beat the shit out of each other for 4 quarters.....I'd put pretty good money that we'd be the ones buying NC merch this week. I really would have liked to see an OSU-LSU matchup. I think we were the best team this season, and it took a lot of dumbfuckery....admittedly mostly on our part....to take that title away. That's not a "we didn't get it done, cased closed" kind of ending to me.
