The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

I think if ND wins out, they are getting in. Unless there are 4 undefeated P5 teams. Especially if UGA ends the regular season/SECCCG undefeated or with 1 loss.

The rest of their schedule is ass but they will ride that "close loss" into the playoff in a situation where there is not 4 unbeaten P5s and they finish with 1 loss

I don’t see it as a lock.

Clemson, Bama and UGA all get in with a loss first.

B1G Ten CG winner gets in with a loss that they avenge in rematch or loss is ‘forgivable’.

Texas gets in with a loss. Oklahoma gets in with loss if they avenge in Big 12 CG. Probably still get in ahead of ND even if they lose in conference and don’t avenge in championship game.

SEC team #2 not named Bama or UGA makes strong case with a loss over ND.

ND beats out Oregon probably. They almost assuredly beat out any other 1 loss PAC champ.

They beat out B1G or Big 12 if their top ranked team is a one loss non-champ (i.e. championship game upset).

I’d say if they win out, they have at best a 50-50 shot to get into playoff.

I dont think any SEC besides Bama or UGA gets in with 1 loss over ND.

LSU MAYBE, Auburn or Florida no though.

The Pac 12 is pretty much eliminated unless some crazy shit happens. Cal running the table would make things pretty hilarious, cause you know theyd do all they could to justify leaving them out for a 1 loss SEC

Clemson goes 13-0...ACC champ = In. Ohio State goes 13-0...B1G champ = In. Alabama/LSU goes 13-0...SEC champ = In. Oklahoma suffers upset vs #11 Texas, and goes 12-1...Big 12 champ = ?. No one in the Pac 12 goes undefeated = Out.

Only three undefeated P5 teams, so you're left with 1-loss UGA, 1-loss ND, 1-loss Oklahoma, and 1-loss Alabama/LSU. Just on the head-to-head between UGA and ND should give UGA the edge, but there's also the loser of the Bama/LSU game whose 1-loss resume would likely be better than ND's. If the 1-loss SEC team from the East is LSU, they will have played four teams ranked in the top 10 at game time, losing only at Alabama. Oklahoma's schedule is that great either, but they've been far more dominant (so far) and only loss is to rival Texas. ND's schedule, other than playing at UGA, is tepid at best.

So, even if ND wins out, they're going to need to hope that there are only one or two undefeated P5 conference champs for them to get in.

There are 5 undefeated SEC teams in the top-10 right now, but that group is guaranteed 7 losses:

Cross-divisional UGA-Auburn and Fla-LSU, UGA-Fla, LSU-Auburn, LSU-Bama, Bama-Auburn, and the SECCG.

Edit - there's an 8th loss, since Auburn also plays Florida

Best case for the SEC, and the worse for us is: UGA over Auburn and Fla, LSU over Auburn and Fla, and Bama winning out. That gives them an undefeated Bama and a 1-loss LSU and 1-loss UGA. ESPN would make the push that only undefeated Power-5 Champions should get in ahead of LSU and Georgia, and if Clemson is undefeated they're in. The only PAC-12 team currently undefeated is Cal, and that's not going to last long.

But without some more SEC upsets, things might require Oklahoma and the B1G Champ to be undefeated to get into the playoff.

This year is definitely looking like the biggest threat of the dreaded 3 team SEC playoff.

Auburn and Florida of course arent as great on the field as their inflated rankings would suggest, but thats not going to stop the Bama/LSU/UGA crowd from getting huge credit for beating them.

They should both already have a loss, too, but Oregon and Kentucky failed to close the deal.

Not to mention that big come from behind win over Miami in Week 0. Somebody please give me one metric - on the field results, better wins, more dominating wins, eye test, who would be favored to win if they played right now - that warrants Florida being ranked higher than Wisconsin (or anywhere near the top 10 for that matter). There is none besides the "we thought they were better before any team played one snap of football" metric.

I hope I don't regret saying this, but I still don't see this as a legitimate threat unless there is chaos everywhere outside the SEC. Man, I REALLY hope I don't regret saying that.

Florida has a 3 game season left essentially. UGA, LSU & Auburn

Anyone else they play is pretty garbage. They are likely to win at least 9 games because of that. None of the talking heads will bring up that point, of course, though. Theyll just talk up Florida as a "tough team" who lost to the best 3 teams they played. If I were a betting man i'd bet on UGA and LSU beating them solidly. Auburn is kind of a tossup because of Freshmen QB (and Auburn really doesnt look that great to the eye to begin with)

Id like to think they wouldnt put 3 SEC teams in either, but I get the feeling they would the instant given the, in their minds, legit opportunity.

Whole lot of football to be played yet, Gentlemen. If I've learned one thing in all my years it is there is little to be gained in being upset over a future that doesnt exist yet.
It starts earlier and earlier every year because SEcSPiN is driving the narrative. A real playoff would eliminate the narrative and that is not something that they want to see.
