APIs Jimmy Jackson the greatest Ohio State basketball player of all time?
The Ohio State Buckeyes have a reputation of producing great college football players more than great college basketball players.
But they have had their share of great basketball players over the years. Here's our list, in order, of the top 10 players in Buckeyes history, based only on their college careers.

10. Greg Oden (2006-07)
Oden would have been ranked much higher if he would played more than one season, and if he would've played more than 30 games and not lost the early part of the season to injury.
9. Jim Cleamons (1969-71)
A unanimous choice for Big Ten All-American. Cleamons was so good that he was drafted No. 1 by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1971.
8. Michael Redd (1997-2000)
He didn't become a great outside shooter until he made it into the NBA, but he led the Big Ten in scoring his freshman year and he was a three-time team MVP.

Continued................

I wouldn't put Oden in that group at all. He didn't even play most of one season.
I agree with Buckyle that Hopson should be in it. Where is Gary Bradds?

1. Jimmy Jackson
2. Jerry Lucas
3. John Havlicek
4. Herb Williams
5. Clark Kellogg
6. Michael Redd
7. Dennis Hobson
8. Gary Bradds
9. Kelvin Ransey
10. Jim Cleamons

My list pretty much mirrors the list of the Plain Dealer but I would put Jerry Lucas at #1 followed by Jim Jackson. If Lucas' knees would have held up, Ohio State might have won the NCAA championship 3 years in a row. There was not a better rebounder or, really all-around player, that played at Ohio State better than Jerry Lucas IMO. My list:

1. Jerry Lucas
2. Jim Jackson
3. Herb Williams
4. Clark Kellogg
5. John Havlicek
6. Kelvin Ransey
7. Jim Cleamons
8. Dennis Hopson
9. Michael Redd
10. Scoonie Penn

Honorable Mention: Fred Taylor

I think you had to see Cleamons play to fully appreciate him. If I were picking out an Ohio State defensive team, he would be on it. Penn was only here for two years so I took that into consideration. Hopson was a terrific all-around player (inside and out). I will admit that GO was a great player but he only played for one year and longevity should mean something.

While I do love Penn, I think he is up a few notches on the Top 10 because of his NBA career so far. It reminds me of Michigan and Tom Brady. The rest in the article seem to be right on the money and makes me proud to be a Buckeye.

Great find.

Good list... maybe I'd switch Kellogg and Havlicek and Redd and Hopson but that would be about it.

I really thought about him but to list him would require listing many others. I followed recruiting very closely back then and Chris was thought to be one of the best outside shooters in the country coming out of high school by all recruiting services.

However, the one thing that I cannot forget about Chris is him missing that off-balance jumper from the left side of the basket against sCum during the Regional final
