The Greatest American Rock Band (Poll)

The Greatest American Rock Band Ever Is...

I'm not particularly a fan of theirs, never bought any records, but of the bands listed none IMO is a better "rock band" than Van Halen. Doors come closest.

My tastes run more to Allman Brothers, Beach Boys, and Talking Heads, but none of these is what I'd call a "rock band."

I think over the past 20-30 years we've tried too hard to subcategorize bands into niches.

The Allman Brothers may have been heavily influenced by the blues but they've always interpreted it through rock & roll (and let's be honest Rock & Roll is itself a bastard child of the Blues).

It's like standing in a room full of Australians..half the words they use don't make any sense, but it's still the same language.

On that list:

1) The Velvet Underground
2) Springsteen and the E-Street Band

Everyone else (though I've been listening to a lot of The Replacements lately).

But how about The Band or, better yet, Dylan backed by The Band?

I just never "got" Van Halen. They do nothing for me. Hell, I'd put Paul Revere and the Raiders before them. :ducking:

Yeah, I like them too. However, I'm old enought to have watched (the original) American Bandstand. Surprisingly they are still around:

The Mothers of Invention probably deserve to be on the list more than a few of the bands up there.
I would agree. Frank Zappa was a different cat for sure, but in that genius sort of way. There are a lot of bands that probably need to be added to the list though. Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Sublime, Ween perhaps....I cant really disagree with who made the list though.

I saw them at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska back in 1992. They played at the NCO club.

I actually went to Paul Revere's wedding (along with several thousand others.).

They did a concert at Kings Island (during which he got married) on July 4, 1976.
