THE GAME: ttun @ tOSU, Sat Nov 26, 12pm, FOX

It was a disorganized gaggle fuck is what it was. Under Tressel & Meyer, there was always an identifiable game plan. This is 2 consecutive years I had no idea what exactly we were trying to do.

I think there's some major revisionist history here.

Tressel most often relied on organized chaos and a mobile QB to gain yards on broken plays. He also went up against RichRod at the end of his tenure.

Urban's gameplan had them regularly being embarrassed in his final 3 seasons. His offense did not win any games against TTUN after '15.

So Hayden was sat for fumbling in practice? I'm more interested in games, like the one he had last week and didn't fumble.

We have to be looking at practice because I wouldn't play a lot of our current rotational players in the secondary if it were based on games.

I'd attack the transfer portal like nobody's business for defensive players (secondary especially).

I was thinking about that following the game. You had Lloyd at the end of his career, a bad Rich Rod and Brady Hoke.

But we (OSU) do need to clean up this program in terms of penalties and busted plays (on defense).

No doubt. This is the first time TTUN has been a legitimate threat since the 90s. If OSU can't figure it out and rise to the occasion, that's fucking disappointing.

Everybody's pissed right now.

Here's how pissed I am.

I hope we get in the CFP and have to face TTUN again.

That's my dream.

If we somehow sneak into the CFP, we'll likely face Georgia. You'll have to get through them first.

But as long as you're dreaming then cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame tonight. USC needs a loss.

Now that I'm slightly more sober: I..don't even know what to say really.

My general thoughts leans towards Day probably not being the guy though. Like my uninformed dumbass fan hot take is that the actual gameplan was pretty good and what fans were clamoring for all year.

At half time OSU outrushed SCUM something like 120 to 10 yards. Fucking 10. And outgained SCUM in total yards by 100 yards. All of us wanted Knowles to load the box and make JJ beat us with his arm since they hadn't done it all year. I'm not sure if any halftime adjustments were made because I had too much Vodka in me to notice, but I would've stuck to the gameplan in the second half in all honestly. Hell JJ finished with a 50% completion rate.

To be honest it just felt like guys weren't making plays. WAY too many crucial dropped passes. Too many coverage busts on defense. Too many crucial mental errors in general. That's kind of where my "Day may not be the guy" assessment comes in. Like we all had problems with Urban's schemes in the past, but when it came to brass tacks and big games, the players always gave extra effort. For all of the faults Urban's teams had in general, when it came to The Game, they would always make the plays they needed to. I remember in the 2018 game McLauren catching a crossing route 3 or 4 yards away from the first down marker, only to keep his legs going until he had the first down. I feel like those are plays that we were missing.

So yeah it just feels like that extra "spark" was missing. X and O's were fine imo. BUT it also made me appreciate why Urban and Tressel called games the way they did when it comes to brass tacks. Outscheming your opponent sometimes isn't enough. Players gotta make plays when shit gets real.

Jim Tressel teams winning due to chaos and running QBs is a bad take. JT teams seemed to build and build each week with new never before seen plays being unveiled against UM and playing our best ball in that game.

Tressel was built for the playoff era. November is for contenders.

I mean Day's offense hasn't even cracked 30 the last two years against SCUM the past two years.

I am not an NC or bust guy. It’s all about this game as a Buckeye fan. I look forward to fall Saturdays because of this team.
Today sucked.
As other compare Tressel and Meyer with Day, the biggest thing I’ve seen the last two years is the overall performance of November. Early season games could look all sorts of questionable, but once November hit, the dominance was coming into form. Last year and this year, I didn’t have that feel for the team.
