The third week in a row we have been down by 6 with the ball and need to run a 2 minute offense. We go 0-3 in those games, but at least scored in one.
My problem is this...how many times does this need to happen until you prepare your team for this situation. Last week Braxton look confused, and the team looked like they haven't ever practiced a 2 minute drill.
So when we are put in the same position this year I'm thinking...okay we HAD to practice this. No we didn't. It was awful. 2 minutes and 1 time out. We use the time out in the stupidest time possible. And even worse, we have a QB who is just chucking it deep when we have enough time for 10 to 15 yard passes. Then...on 3rd and 5 we spike the ball? It looked to me that Fickell was giving the signal to hurry to the line and run a play...I didn't see him giving the spike the ball sign. But in any case...HOW DO YOU SPIKE THE BALL THERE?!? Awful awful awful decision. We looked so confused. Like it was the first time we have ever needed to score to win a game. Maybe it's because we are young, but it's the last game of the season. You should have enough poise to handle this situation...maybe that just rubs off from the coaches. Not sure.
What I am sure of is we had this one. The refs fucked it up. That was the worst reversal of a TD I've ever seen. Awful. Both camera angles were off...he obviously broke the plane. So after the bad call, we end up getting the ball back down 6...a gift. And we don't take it. It was our to take, and we didn't take it. And that makes me sick. And it's sad too how TERRIBLE Michigan's defense played. Guys were open ALL DAY. Braxton did a good job finding the open guy, but his accuracy needs to improve drastically!
There are no moral victories in THIS game. There is no "at least they didn't give up" or "at least they played hard". Screw that...it's Ohio State/Michigan. Who wouldn't play hard all game? I'm not going to complement a team for doing something they SHOULD do.
We lost the last 3 games of the season. Unacceptable. Sorry...it's the harsh truth.
