THE GAME, tOSU at tCun, Sat. 11/25, 12pm ET, FOX

Michigan-Ohio State was second-most watched game in rivalry history

The numbers are in, and Saturday’s Michigan-Ohio State football game drew monster viewership figures for FOX once again.

More than 19 million folks tuned into this year’s version of The Game, won by Michigan, 30-24, making it the second-most watched game in the history of the rivalry, the network announced Wednesday. Only the game in 2006 — known as “The Game of the Century” — generated more eyeballs (21.04 million).

Saturday’s game peaked at 22.9 million viewers, FOX says, and drew a 9.0 rating — the third-highest share in the history of Michigan-Ohio State television broadcasts. Only the games in 2006 (13.0) and 2016 (9.4) drew higher ratings.

This article put eloquently what I have tried to say in my caveman way.

Basically Day in my opinion coaches at tOSU like it is a pro team and does not realize that for the Game the most important thing is to have the team in an emotional frenzy and walking the line between murdering rage and insanity. Meanwhile Hairball decided he would rather get thrown out of college football for redline every rule than lose to tOSU again.
I have said this before. You can make fun of Ponyboy all you want. But it is that level of commitment and creativity that is often the difference between winning and losing. As they say down South, if you ain't cheating you ain't trying.

I can not get into a discussion of how much I loath that place. But they have turned the worm. And I am convinced that Day is going to quite coaching before he figures out how to peak the team for the GAME. And honestly, that is his issue. He thinks that the key is consistency. And it is for sure. Except in big moments and big games. In those moments it becomes about grit, and drive, and passion. It is no longer about precision or execution. In those moments it is about imposing your will on the other team and beating them mentally as well as physically. Making the other team believe that you are unbreakable and the outcome is inevitable no matter what you do. It is funny because I think those first few years between Hairball and Day neither team was doing it right. Then Hairball figured it out and crushed Day 2 years in a row. Lets hope Day can get over that hump and get it right next season or he may be walking the Green Mile next Fall.

That theory will be tested next year, if Jim stays and wins in Columbus then what. Many on this board claim the talent advantage for OSU next year will be huge. It will be the intangibles that we can’t match.

With all due respect. I heard the same thing last year and the year before. Hairball has 3 years of winning the game he can hang his hat on. Most people believe he is gone after this year, but if the NCAA is easy on those assholes, then what?

This. We have always been at a talent advantage against these clowns, yet we lose on lack of preparation and ambition. I don't know how you fix that, but I also don't get paid to figure it out. If we lose again next year at home, then I am saying clear the house and no fucking excuses are left. I wasn't saying that before loss #3 in a row, but I will be saying it emphatically if loss #4 in a row happens...3 in a row is grounds enough to do it, 4 in a row is a carte blanche for an absolute overhaul.

@RB07OSU made me think of the phrase that has gone round and round in my head since last Saturday:

Once an Accident
Twice a Coincidence
Three times a Pattern

I believe this is the undercurrent that makes up a great deal of the negative feedback by many BPers (intentionally or otherwise), and while I haven't stated such, it's where I'm at mentally. @Ramzy 's latest writing was a hammer/nail-head event for me as he voiced so much of what has gone through my mind.
The phrase above is also why, in my IMO, surface adjustments and mantras are not going to be enough to reverse the Pattern. I hope that Day takes the necessary, actionable steps.

I don’t ascribe to the talent advantage being wide if it has been then it’s an even bigger coaching/leadership FAIL.

They fucking cheated.

As for the talent advantage (Jimmys/Joes) argument, Michigan has it in the trenches. They have worn us down in the first half and took it to us in the second half.

If we don’t start winning the trenches it’s not going to get any better.

How does the trend look for recruiting in the trenches? That’s the only way to fix the very obvious issue so it would seem that it would be something that might concern us.
