THE GAME, tOSU at tCun, Sat. 11/25, 12pm ET, FOX

An interesting piece of this…

Why are they “falling off a cliff” in stages?
Why wasn’t the cliff steeper?

The answer is something that I call the Doubt Snowball. I don’t know what you call it, but it’s such a common part of the human psychological experience that you already know what I’m talking about, even if you don’t have a name for it.

Part of any contest is about how good each team is; part is about the confidence each team has. Versus MSU, TCUN were much better and were more confident. Versus PSU, they were a little better at some positions, but not all. As for confidence, PSU in general and Allar in particular had their confidence Chewed up and spit out by the Buckeyes just two weeks earlier, and that certainly affected the game. BUT… PSU was still good enough to make some plays here and there against TCUN. Some cracks started to show in the CUNTS’ confidence. Then they went to Maryland, and while the Terps made enough mistakes to give the game away, they also made enough plays that the cracks in the CUNTS’ confidence began to widen.

Fast forward to Saturday, they’ll be playing the first game against superior talent since their crib sheets were effectively confiscated. The Buckeyes will make plays. The doubt that was a pebble vs PSU and gained momentum vs Maryland will start to snowball as it rolls downhill.

The Doubt Snowball has decided battles throughout history.

TCUN is a kid walking into a final exam shortly after having his crib sheet confiscated

Buckeyes by 3 Touchdowns

Seriously

Just so as to ensure that outcome: The Buckeyes have no chance at all this week, there’s no way they win

Excellent commentary, and I like the term 'doubt snowball.' How many times have we been playing vastly inferior opponents and the team allows them to 'hang around' late, building confidence, versus getting a big lead early and seeing that doubt snowball in the other team followed by watching some freshmen play by the middle of the 3rd and BP devolve in to stories about thick socks and Thump's colon?

I think the team and everyone watching is ready for a 4 quarter game, but damn if it doesn't feel like if we can get up by a couple of scores in the 1st half, that tCun will just melt and it will be like playing Sparty or Wisconsin.

I don't think they'll melt until the 3rd. They'll be expecting the coaches to give them their miracle second half adjustment, but when it doesn't come, the confidence will fall off a cliff.

I wouldn’t be shocked by this.

Big thing here would be to score touchdowns early. No field goals.

IDK. I think if we punch them in the mouth right away, mount a couple of drives and hold them from doing anything's they'd come unglued early. They can only mask everything with that "US AGAINST EVERYONE!" front for so long. Think falling behind 14-0 with the offense flailing would be about what it would take to finally completely send them into a tailspin.

I think they were close to that meltdown against Maryland, Maryland was just too incompetent to take advantage of it.
Maryland just made too many mistakes. We can’t make those mistakes.

The only thing I’d push back a bit on with the snowball theory is what if the reverse happens? If we can’t run the ball and can’t stop the run early will we panic? Will we start to think “oh it wasn’t the cheating”.

Now I think our defense is much better this year and I don’t think their OL is even close to as good as last year. Not to mention I think their skill at WR is dog shit.

But, it’s extremely important to strike first and strike hard. Because again what we can’t have happen is for them to march down the field on a 7 minute drive to start and then for us to go three and out. We cannot have this scenario play out. We have to start out moving the ball and more importantly we need to get an early stop on defense

Yep. I'm very confident that if we avoid making those back breaking mistakes (Turnovers for TD, Turnovers in bad places, Blocked punt/FGs) we win this game maybe easily.

I worry more about Day going into panic mode than the players. He needs to keep his shit together and not just start completely changing the game plan to stupid shit because things don't work a few times.

Their OL still run blocks "well" but it's not as good as the previous 2 years. Pass Pro is shaky especially now that their cheat sheets have been taken away.

TACKLING will be huge, can't let Corum get those extra 3-4 yards constantly by not bringing him down soundly right away

Their WRs are ass, Wilson has a lot of TDs but he's not really dynamic, most the damage he does is closer to the end zone when they get there by methodically pounding the ball, can't let that TE Loveland constantly run wipe open on 3rd/4th downs all day though like Maryland did. Need to have someone close to his ass at all times since he seems to be Spin Pass' go to now, especially on key plays.
