Game Thread THE GAME: Ohio State 42, Michigan 7 (Nov. 22)

Toledo War

Map of the "Toledo Strip", the disputed region. The Toledo War (1835?1836), also known as the Ohio-Michigan War, was the mostly bloodless boundary dispute between the U.S. state of Ohio and the adjoining territory of Michigan.

The dispute originated from varying interpretations of conflicting state and federal legislation, passed between 1787 and 1805, which in turn resulted largely from a poor understanding of the location of certain features of the Great Lakes. This caused the governments of Ohio and Michigan to both claim sovereignty over a 468 square mile (1,210 km?) region along the border, now known as the Toledo Strip. When Michigan pressed for statehood in the early 1830s it sought to include the disputed territory within its boundaries but Ohio's Congressional delegation was able to halt Michigan's admission to the Union.

Beginning in 1835 both sides passed legislation meant to force the other side's capitulation. Ohio's governor Robert Lucas and Michigan's then 24-year-old "boy governor" Stevens T. Mason were both unwilling to cede jurisdiction of the Strip, so they raised militias and helped institute criminal penalties for citizens submitting to the other state's authority. Both militias were mobilized and sent to positions on opposite sides of the Maumee River near Toledo, but there was little interaction between the two sides besides mutual taunting. The single military confrontation of the "war" ended with a report of shots being fired into the air, incurring no casualties.

I have a feeling if RichRod had been the govornor of Michigan at the time, the Michigan Militia might have started shooting themselves in the foot...

Well...

Provided they had the aim to make that shot.

If DickRod was the governor then, Michigan would be speaking French and part of Quebec or some such shit. Fuck that, fuck him, fuck them...

Man.. I may have to put money on scUM here... hear me out..

Buckeyes win.

If the Buckeyes win by 24 or more, I lose some cash.. but the Buckeyes still win so who cares?

If the Buckeyes win by 1 or more, I win some cash.. and the Buckeyes still win.

If scUM somehow pulls the upset, I burn the cash.

Woody Hayes wouldn't even buy gas in the state, and you want to bet on THEM to cover?????

You do realize what week this is?

Threet doubtful, separated shoulder.

McGuffie had a death in the family, likely to miss cbus game.

Threet looked like he took an ugly injury at the end of the NW game...of course he looked like he threw with a separated shoulder most of the the time anyway, so who'd notice the difference? :slappy:

And on a serious note, prayers and sympathy for McGuffie...deaths in the family are always hard to deal with, and I've had too many of those myself recently. Best to him, he'll have 3 more cracks at it.

Go Bucks! Beat Blue!

The week is here!

Just some more fodder. With a win, Ohio State will join only 4 other teams to have a 5 game (or more) win streak versus Michigan.

Even 4 game win streaks versus the Wolves are fairly rare, and generally occurred before most internet posters were born.

4 Game Win Streaks Versus M:
Harvard
Illinois
Michigan State (3 times)
Minnesota
Notre Dame
Ohio State (3 times counting the current streak)
Penn

5 Game Win Streaks Versus M:
Army (1945, 46, 49, 50, 54)
Purdue (1962-1965)

7 Game Win Streak Versus M:
Cornell (1889, 90, 91, 91, 92, 92, 94)
That's not a typo. Guess they played twice a year in the 1800's. Probably gives a bit of insight to the state of college football at the turn of the century when Michigan was racking up MNCs.

9 Game Win Streak Versus M:
Minnesota (1934-1942)

Gee, that looks somewhat familiar:

Longest streaks against Michigan

It's really pick your poison, except for UM instead of the opposition. Threet has the arm but awful decision-making, Sheridan makes better reads but often can't execute with his arm.

OSU's back 6/7 will be licking their chops with his throws, and he rolls out to his right every other play.

So....what you are saying is that Threet couldn't hit ice if he fell down in Antarctica, and Sheridan couldn't noodle-dick a tennis ball to the Great Wall of China if he was standing 5 feet away from it then?

Awesome! :slappy:
