What the Buckeyes had to say

Saturday, November 22, 2008 4:54 PM

From the Ohio State athletics communications office

Chris "Beanie" Wells, junior running back
On his advice to Herron before the game
"I told him to fight for those seniors out on the field. I also told him that this is a game where you make a name for yourself and he definitely made his name today."
On being a part of a team with players who have won five pairs of gold pants
"It is an honor and blessing to be a part of a team that has made history. It is an unreal feeling and amazing to be a part of something so great."

Man, I love Sunday mornings like this one. Sunny skies. No wind. The planets aligned. All is good.
You got that right, dude.
Just walked the dog, crisp morning, the eastern sky is just beginning to light up. picked up the paper (Toledo Blade), got the coffee brewing. All is well up here in Meatchicken.

I know we didn't cure cancer or eliminate hunger in the world, but it's not bad.

Get A Life, Dick Rod!

What the Wolverines had to say

Saturday, November 22, 2008 4:15 PM

From the Ohio State athletics communications office

Rich Rodriguez, Michigan head coach
On his first Ohio State/Michigan game
"There was a lot of intensity that both teams had today and it was very physical throughout the game. It had the hitting and all the emotions you expect coming into a game like this."

On the Michigan seniors

"I am proud of them as I could be of those guys. They are good guys and they might not have had a successful season but they had a successful career here and will have successful lives. It's hard on the guys, but a few years from now I'll bring up this group and say they laid the foundation for us. The only regret I have is not having those guys back next year."

OSU-Michigan game kinder, colder and gentler
Fans have fun, cops let them

An old rivalry has gotten a kinder, gentler update.

Sure there the was the football game - Ohio State beat Michigan 42-7 - but this rivalry was in the parking lots, where Buckeye fans have toned down the alcohol-fueled excesses of earlier days and Michigan fans said they no longer fear for their safety.

"Today's been gentle," said Jeff McCutcheon, 29, a Michigan fan from the Detroit area.

Fans at tailgate parties said they have come to an unspoken understanding with police: Alcohol, though illegal in public spaces, will be tolerated, as long as drinkers are discreet and don't bother anyone.

Transcript of Jim Tressel's postgame news conference

Saturday, November 22, 2008 4:49 PM

From the Ohio State athletics communications office

COACH TRESSEL: Well, it was a great day for those 28 seniors and our kids played hard and Michigan played hard and it was a wild first half. We came back -- I thought the turning point was when they punted us down to the 9 and then two plays later we scored. That was huge. A big run by Beanie and a big run by Boom Herron and that really made a difference. Just so proud of these kids to be able to have some of the accomplishments that our seniors have had over the last five years if they're a fifth-year guy or four years if they're a four-year guy, really incredible. Just looking forward to a nice Thanksgiving and watch some ball games even yet today.

REPORTER: From a historical standpoint, first team ever to go five in a row over Michigan, talk about that.

Congratulations Buckeyes, especially the seniors. It's been a pleasure watching you over your years here. Best of luck with your future endeavors, wherever they may lead.

On a less positive note, I thought the fans were a disappointment for THE GAME. While it was slightly better than most games this year, it paled in comparison to the state penn game or any other of THE GAMES I've been to over the last 10+ years. How hard is it to keep the noise up between plays on 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th downs when the enemy is on the goal line? The noise it self was decent but I thought it they were trying to time the snap for most of the game.

I sat in south stands just below half way up. My buddy said it best when he said he thinks the students expect to win THE GAME now, so the excitement isn't there. Then again it could be because tOSU was favored so heavily.

Oh well, I guess it's not that big of a deal. Life is pretty good when the scummers go down another year. It should be a state holiday the Monday following a game, or maybe even when we hit "2000 days since they beat us".

Here's to a great bowl win and then looking forward to 2009. Go bucks!

Did anyone else laugh really hard when Paul McGuire said "Here comes that powerful offense." during the 2nd quarter. My Dad and I could not stop laughing for 5 minutes. Our stomachs started to hurt from laughing so hard.

FUCK MICHIGAN!

The fact the windchill was single-digits and everyone was wearing gloves couldn't have had an influence on muting the applause, could it? Or the fact we were playing a truly dreadful team?

I thought the fans were fine. I have my usual Sunday morning laryngitis, as I suspect most fans at the game now have.

Did they show the oregame confrontation on TV?

It was pretty much blocked by security, press people, etc...

Yes they did.

Well yeah, they did show the pregame confrontation...

But it's hard to tell what kind of spelling error jwins made there. He might have really meant "origami". Perhaps he was talking about the Apple Cup, which was clearly played only to see who could fold faster. The Huskies won, folding in double OT to the Cougs.

And no, as near as I could tell they didn't show that on TV.

[censored] MICHIGAN!

Well, I did laugh when they showed a frustrated RichRod on the sidelines and McGuire couldn't help himself and just laughed out loud - clearly at RichRod's expense. That was funny.

Another thing that didn't make me laugh but is funny in retrospect - I have never seen a game involving TSUN where "The Victors" was played less - perhaps because they now understand that "the victors" = "The Buckeyes".
