Game Thread THE GAME: Ohio State 14, TSUN 3 (final)

I'm enjoying the experience of "The Game", and it is interesting to note the differences with our own rivals. Now, I am not saying anything pro or con about the different experiences, just comparing.

To old Gators like me, there is nothing better than to hate the worthless butt sniffing leg humping poodles from Georgia. Their long run of success in the 70s and 80s still remains some of my bitterest memories. There is no such thing as "class" when the WLOCP is on: you ruts, and you call a time out with fifteen seconds left to see if you can throw a Hail Mary for a meaningless padded score, and call an on-side kick, recover and yet another Hail Mary. More importantly, you expect the same, and it is considered whining to complain about it. You should take a knee on other opponents when you are ahead, but not those ass-holes. Too many memories of smelling the breath of drunk mutts barking in my face - right before the fight breaks out!

Now our jealous little brothers at FSU are not our main rival. It annoys them that we deny that we are their rival, as we do not value them that much to be our main rival. True, it is an in-state heated deal, but they will always be the secretarial college to us.

Which brings me to my point. Does the hype over (indeed labeling it) "The Game" bring too much honor to Michigan by the recognition of the importance of the game? That whole honoring thing where you judge me by the greatness of my enemy?? Since the skunk bears are the scum that they are, do such actions (for minor example, the poli-board shut down) bring too much attention to them, thereby giving them honor that they do not deserve in a left handed manner??

Here I await the instruction of my BP friends to enlighten me.:scum3:

Truth--

Read this quick, because I may decide to delete it soon and deny ever posting it...

Yes, a big part of this is that both schools are in the top 5 in all time winning percentage. Read the first post in the Official Stat Thread and you'll get some idea of the lengths to which we will go to dwell on that fact. We have been very good for a long time, and like it or not, so have they.

And to be completely honest, the fact that both schools have made every attempt to do it the right way (the actions of a few bad apples on each side notwithstanding) has a great deal to do with the mutual respect extravaganza. We do tend to point and laugh at the bad apples on the other side, but the fact is that we do respect each other.

There are those on both sides that don't do the whole "respect" thing; but there are a lot of people on both sides, so that is to be expected.

The truth is, we don't worry about giving them respect that they haven't earned. We don't wish anything less for them.

That, and we hate them and want to pound the bastard sons of ugly camels into an unrecognizable mush.

The Game is The Game because both of boths teams success. I, for one, respect the hell out of M*ch*gan. Which makes it all the sweeter kicking their teeth in.

If I understand you correctly, I think the answer is "no." You can't alter the significance (real or perceived) of an event by simply trying to down-play it. For example, if I were to get fired right now, I can't try to pretend that isn't a big event simply by acting as though it didn't just happen. It happened. I ought to act as though I just got fired. (You know - kicking people in the neck and threatening law suits and stealing stuff. Just kidding.)

The same is true in the case of Ohio State and Michigan. This is for the Big Ten championship. It is for the Rose Bowl. It is for Jim Tressel and Lloyd Carr. And for the gold pants. And for bragging rights. It's for Woody and Bo, and the 10 year's war. It's for redemption for the Cooper years. It's for Ohio State fans who think Michigan fans are arrogant pricks, and Michigan fans who think Ohio State fans are uneducated hicks. It's for Troy Smith. It's for Desmond Howard. It's for Chad Henne, Mike Hart, and Jake Long. It's for Archie and Eddie. It's for 1973 and for 2003, and for 1986. It's for 1996 and 1995.

There are countless "rivalries" in college football. "Battle for the Old Oaken Bucket." "Battle for the Apple Cup." "Battle for the Golden Pineapple." "Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party." "Red River Rivalry." The Game has no name. The Game is above trophies and designations. In the minds of many, there is nothing else other than The Game. There is one game, and that's The Game. Everything else is just pre-season to many. This game is THE Game.

Gator - it's a focus thing. The poli-board shut down is more a sign of our unity as Buckeyes this week more than anything else. As you're aware, bickering in that forum is constant. But, this week, we set that all aside.

On the respect issue, there is some level of respect for "them" as a rival...

Look at it like this... When Woody got fired there was a party for him in his honor. There was only ONE person who attended who was not a Buckeye, and it was Bo. True Bo was a "traitor" but Woody - despite what he said in public "I didn't like the SOB when he played for me. I didn't like the SOB when he coached for me, and I sure as hell don't like him now" - also truly did respect the man. This sort of ideal, I think, is a good description on our rivalry.

Which makes sense. I respect - but loathe - the mange ridden mutts, and treasure our rivalry. But ours is a gloves off relationship, which little desire to show respect at all to the other....which is also why we treasure it.

Sorry to have to make you admit that. You can ding me for it.

If we are showing solidarity this week, I should probably be banned from the gaming forum for awhile. :slappy:

Long had some issues last game.

Either way, Heyward or Gibson will give your right side some serious issues, imo.

A three year old with two broken legs could give our right side some serious issues.....

Long did have some trouble, but he managed to keep Henne off the turf. It'll be interesting to see how Long and Gholston match up in the run game. Lord knows we're probably going to run left about 912 times.

Just quoting you here Sniper to show the New Guy that some Michigan men have something to add. I figure if he reads it twice, he'll have a better chance of understanding what this board is about.
