Victory at Michigan can ease OSU?s pain

COLUMBUS All of a few hours to mourn, Ohio State players were back at it Sunday morning.

Their hopes of returning to the national championship game likely dashed, the Buckeyes were looking at Michigan, and themselves Sunday morning.

?I feel bad for our seniors. We wanted to send them out the right way,? linebacker and underclassman co-captain James Laurinaitis said.

?We don?t have time to put our heads down. We have to kind of look at each other and look at ourselves in the mirror and go in there (Sunday) and focus on Michigan. Everybody knows around here this is ?The Week? no matter what happens.?

Bruised Buckeyes focus on Michigan
Despite loss to Illinois, rivalry still will decide Big Ten title

By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS - The Ohio State players who entered the postgame interview room following Saturday's stunning 28-21 loss to Illinois said it all, without uttering a word. They trudged through the door, shuffling their feet. Their shoulders drooped, their expressions were blank. Their body language screamed disappointment, dismay and frustration. The No. 1 ranking the Buckeyes had enjoyed for more than a month - gone. The shot at an undefeated season - gone. The hope for a second straight trip to the national championship game - gone. The 28-game regular season winning streak - gone.

OSU, Michigan playing for pride and postseason

[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]COLUMBUS ? A few minutes after Michigan was beaten 37-21 by Wisconsin early Saturday afternoon, one of the Wolverines players said that now the Ohio State game was ?a one-game season.?
Shockingly, No. 1 Ohio State?s players found themselves thinking the same thing after being upset 28-21 by Illinois later Saturday.
While the importance, hype and emotional stakes of this Saturday?s OSU at Michigan game doesn?t approach last year?s No. 1 against No. 2 battle, both teams will go into it determined to keep this season from being a disappointment in one way or another.
Both teams talked about winning national championships this season ? Michigan at the beginning of the season and Ohio State later on, until Saturday afternoon.
The winner will be the Big Ten champion and go to the Rose Bowl. The loser will head to the Capital One Bowl or somewhere similar, which would be quite a comedown for either team.
?We can?t erase how we feel about it,? Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said about the Buckeyes? loss to Illinois.

Having had a dislocated shoulder, I can tell you that the amount of pain it causes is extraordinary! There isn't much they can do for Henne, he'll need surgery. And Hart will be good for just 12 plays or so. But, they do have other good running backs. We need to see Mallet play a lot! :tongue2:

I feel pretty confident in thinking that Hart probably could have played last week. I don't really have anything to back it up. I also think Henne got pulled quickly to shift any blame of a loss onto a backup QB instead of a mouthy shitstain of a RB who probably could have played but didn't. Mini-conspiracy theories, sure.....but what the hell else is Michigan week for?

How about the fact that he was jumping up and down with his helmet on right in front of Carr practically begging to be allowed in?

Hey mods, this is Michigan week! Yay!:osu3:

I applaud your decision to keep out the trolls. Thank you!

But can you please allow Hail to make his comments here? He's not a troll, he's just a college football fan like we are and I really like to hear his comments. He adds to the fun of Michigan week. And the whole rivalry is about having fun, yes?

Come on, lighten up! I have a keychain that plays the OSU fight song and I plan to use it copiously this week to antagonize my Wolverine friends at work. And yes, I do work at tsun. It's the best time of the year! I am a Buckeye in enemy territory and I love it!!

Go Buckeyes!

I was thinking similar to that but after watching I came away with this:

You don't start Henne but not Hart if Hart is physically ok to go. I disagree that Henne was a scheduled departure. Why run him out there for just a few plays and risk aggrevating the shoulder more? My crystal ball is no better than anyone else's but I feel I saw Henne leave that game after that one really bad throw because he had made the shoulder worse.

Hart begging Lloyd to put him in and not getting to, I took as a sign that the training staff had told Carr "No". Again, it just doesn't make sense to start one and not the other. I think this "rest them for The Game" thing was a lot of talk from fans and media. I don't think an old school coach like Lloyd Carr is thinking anywhere past the game he is playing that day and he's going to play anyone who is physically able to help him do that.

Bottom line I came away feeling that even if you see Hart and Henne this Saturday(Hart I'm almost sure of) they simply aren't going to be anywhere near 100%.

I feel real good about our chances if we get a large dose of Mr Mallet but it won't matter if we can't stop the run game(and their backups can do the job on us if the line is eating our DT's up and we are missing tackles all over the field).
